Name up to three of your most or least favorite books into movies and explain why you like or dislike them.

Memoirs of a Geisha - It's a wonderful recreation of the book. The book was absolutely wonderful. I've already read it 3 times. I liked the movie because it followed the book very well, and the characters were beautiful.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban - The movie was better than the book!!!! It was darker and more grown-up, and everything went very smoothly.

*****

Memoirs of a Geisha was a great movie, but the story was twisted around in the movie way too much. I would also have to say Cold Mountain. I'm surprised they can even use the same title for the movie considering how far fetched it was from the book! Finally, I would have to say the third Harry Potter movie. They did it all wrong! Completely!

*****

I hated the Lemony Snicket movie. They did it all wrong. The Thief Lord they did right, I liked it. The movie Timeline was way better than the book, which is odd for me to think because I usually love the book better than the movie.

*****

Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood was very well done. While no movie can get everything in a book onto the screen, this one followed the storyline and was faithful to the characters in a way that didn't ruin the book.

Another book-based movie I liked a lot was The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. That certainly followed the storyline well. And even if one had already read the book, one would still be on the edge of the seat wondering whether those four children would really succeed in their quest.

*****

Mary Reilly: I thought the movie made after this book was pretty good, although they didn't include a lot of things, but that goes with any book.

Ella Enchanted: I really didn't like this movie. The book is one of my favorites but didn't like the movie because it wasn't at all like the book...and isn't that what they're trying to do?

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants: I liked this book and the movie. There were a few things I thought they should have included, like the incident where Kostos finds Lena naked at the lake and her grandpa gets in a fight with his grandpa.

*****

My least favorite:
The Princess Diaries --- The movie didn't grasp the book. The grandmother's character was all wrong, and so was the dog. It wasn't portrayed as the books I read over and over again all the time.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants --- Though the movie was great, the books were even better. In the movie, Bridget seemed like a slut and the person who played Tibby didn't even read the book!!!

My most favorite:
The Harry Potter series --- These books are perfect when they are made into the movies, from the characters to the scenes to a lot of other things as well.

*****

Tuck Everlasting: They could have made it better, but the characters were good.

*****

The Princess Diaries: This movie really disappointed me. It didn't follow the book well, and it was cheesy as well as completely unoriginal, unlike the book, which I loved.

Pride and Prejudice: This movie is the most successful book into movie example ever! It follows the book so well.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: I cannot decide on this one, because I don't think that the movie was bad, yet none of the Harry Potter movies will ever measure up to the books.

*****

Seabiscuit, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings, and Thank You for Smoking were awesome because of casting and the great talent of the actors, not to mention the settings and all the hard work that went into them. Ella Enchanted, a fabulous book, was a horrible movie.

*****

I have two favorite books that have been put into movies. The first one would have to be the Harry Potter Series, I love the books and I really love what they have done with the movies. They may not put everything in there, but they put enough in there to know what's going on in the film, for people who did not read any of the books.

The second one would be the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Peter Jackson did such a great job on them that it made me want to read the books again. I just loved all of the special stuff that he did.

*****

Most favorite: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. (It wasn't exactly like the book but was still really good.)

*****

Best: A Little Princess --- They are almost measured equally and give the same beautiful message.
A Walk to Remember --- The two are so different but they both are fantastic.
Worst/Best: Lord of the Rings --- I love this movie but I had some issues with the book, although I love reading the book to see the different views and further information.

*****

One of my all-time favorite books into movies is Anne of Green Gables. I just love the story and how close they kept it to the actual book. Another great one is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I actually saw the previews, read the books, and then watched the movie. I really liked doing it this way because I knew who the characters were so I wasn't disappointed when I saw the movie. I didn't already have a picture in my mind. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe was also amazing. (The one that just came out, not the BBC version). It's such a great story and has very slight references to the Bible. All three of these movies are fantastic and I would recommend them to anyone.

*****

I dislike that The Princess Diaries was made into a movie, because the book had so much more detail and was very different from the movie. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was a really good movie but I feel that it left out some really good parts. The Outsiders had the same problem --- it was a good movie that lacked important details.

*****

A Series of Unfortunate Events --- I didn't like how they fit the first portion of the series (about 3 or 4 books) into it. They edited it wrong and totally messed up the sequence of events.

*****

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe was really good, as well as all the Harry Potter movies.

The only one I think they NEED to make is TWILIGHT by Stephenie Meyer, because it would be an awesome movie.

*****

To Kill a Mockingbird was a good book into a movie.
Catch-22 was also a good one.

*****

Harry Potter: The first and second were okay, they veered from the original plot line a little but I still enjoyed them. The third was horrible. The new Dumbledore is terrible and that threw off the movie a lot. They also changed the plot a little too much for me...but the fourth one was awesome!

The Princess Diaries: Loved it, they changed the story a lot but the actors were excellent so it turned out great. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews made both movies good.

Ella Enchanted: While I enjoy Anne Hathaway, I think that they butchered this story. I loved the book but the movie just seemed really crazy, it was nothing like the book.

*****

I think my least favorite adaptation of a movie has to be A Series of Unfortunate Events. They made it more humorous than serious. Count Olaf was supposed to be evil, not quirky and wild and zany. They should have never cast Jim Carrey as Olaf, and they should've taken more time, and not made them just stupid.

*****

I loved the book OUT OF AFRICA and the film version was spectacular also. It's my favorite film. A River Runs Through It was also a great film and book. On the flip side, I HATED the film version of UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN. The book was so much better and much more detailed...the movie was a comic flop!

*****

Lord of the Rings: Peter Jackson brought the books to life! It was a masterpiece!!

Harry Potter: Seeing the characters and what I imagined in my mind on the big screen is fun and worthy of watching as much as reading the books.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen: The book was so much fun and the movie turned out to keep the excitement and humor of the book.

*****

I didn't like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie, though I loved the book. The movie left out way too many details and it had a completely different ending!! I was ecstatic when I heard there was going to be a movie made from the book, the book being one of my all-time favorites. I just don't think that transfer from book to screenplay was done very well.

*****

I love the books Holes and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but their movies just aren't any good.

*****

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants --- I really enjoyed this as a movie because I was able to see the characters and become more close to the them.

Harry Potter --- I really dislike the books because they are super long and are sometimes hard to read, so seeing the movie was a great way for me to understand the book itself.

The Notebook --- I really enjoyed how this book was turned into a movie because then it felt more real and I enjoyed how the movie was made! I really enjoyed all three of the movies I selected!

*****

I loved the Harry Potter movies, though they were a bit different from the books --- I like to view them as a different version, and plus you gotta love good ol' Daniel Radcliffe.

I also really liked The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. It had good cinematography and I imagined the winter forest just like that.

*****

My least favorite book into movie is Fahrenheit 451. The movie is so different in many ways. It seems not at all like something you would imagine from the book. It ruined my interpretation of the book!!

*****

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone was fairly well done. It didn't leave much key information out and was a good introduction to the series.

I hated Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It didn't stay true to the book at all, and the actors didn't play the parts very well, especially Dumbledore. The person playing him played parts angrily, when Dumbledore was described in the book as serene and calm. The scene in the maze was also poorly done.

I enjoyed the movie Holes. The actors were excellent and seemed to stay in character for the entire movie.

*****

I love the Harry Potter 1, 2, and 3 movies. They have captured the essence of Rowling's writing. The film was true to the book. There were no changes, only omissions. I have a problem with Harry Potter 4, though. There were characters omitted who will become very relevant in 5. I wonder if the filmmakers read all of the books to date when they made the film.

*****

I loved Holes when it was made into a movie! It was just like the book, and I loved the book, so it was just perfect!

I also liked Speak (not in theaters). It was also just like the book and I was happy to see my favorite book on TV. The emotions I felt in the book I also felt while watching the movie.

The third movie I liked was The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Even though it wasn't like the book, I thought it was better.

*****

The Lord of the Rings series, because it has a lot of drama in it.
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, because of its setting.
Tuck Everlasting, because it was a cute romance.

*****

"Out with the bad...In with the good"

The Bad:
Holes
A Series of Unfortunate Events

The Good:
Gone With the Wind
The Wizard of Oz
Harry Potter
movies

*****

I liked the movie Speak. I really liked the acting and the storyline. I liked the characters and I thought the acting was really good. I haven't read the book, but I'm planning to.

I also really really liked The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, though once again, I haven't read the books. But I'm not planning on reading these.

LOOKING FOR ALIBRANDI was a really good book, and seeing as it was a really good book, I was disappointed by the movie. It was good, but I saw the characters in a different way when I was reading, and some of the acting was a little poor in my opinion. The movie was good and the book was excellent.

*****

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe --- Excellent visual effects and the movie kept the audience interested.

Hoot --- I got to see the sneak preview by satellite! Awesome! Very good humor.

Because of Winn-Dixie - This was one of my most favorite books and it's one of the best "kids" movies that I've seen in a long time.

*****

My favorite books that were made into movies are PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, GONE WITH THE WIND, and THE NOTEBOOK.

*****

Dislikes:
Call of the Wild --- This was the an awful book, but the movie was just over-the-top disgraceful. It was so dull and boring I think that breathing patterns are more interesting.

Likes:
The Five People You Meet in Heaven --- This was an amazing book and I think the movie did it justice. Both capture so much emotion that it's ridiculous.

*****

Harry Potter (all of them) --- The movies did no justice whatsoever to the books.

The Lord of the Rings (all of them) --- The director did an incredible job of transforming the unreadable books into excellent movies.

Can't think of any others, but I would say that in general when books are converted into movies, the books are usually way better (The Lord of the Rings is an exception).

*****

Holes was a good one.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was awesome!
I LOVE The Notebook, based on the book by Nicolas Sparks.

*****

I haven't read The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe yet. But after watching the movie I want to read all of the series. The movie was so good, I can't imagine not reading a book with more details and probably more intense moments.

*****

I like Harry Potter and all, but I hate the HP movies. In the movies, they totally leave out all the little things that make the whole series complete.

*****

I hate all the Harry Potter movies because they leave out so much of what happened in the book that I feel that it has changed the story.

*****

Pride and Prejudice. Definitely. I read the book, and I hope to see the movie sometime soon. A friend first recommended that I read the book, so I went to my local library and borrowed it. It was one of the best I've ever read. Immediately after reading it the first time, I read it again, and currently I'm on my way through it again.

I don't know why, but the book is different, unique and special, in a class of its own. I loved the themes and ironic/humorous moments in the book. The language may be hard to understand sometimes, but it adds a touch to the story that is just perfect. I can see why it is so famous.

*****

My 2 least favorite books into movies:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, because the film was missing some key points from the book, like Doby being blamed for making the Dark Mark at the World Cup, and a few little things that were said between "Moody" and Harry.

The Princess Diaries: A Royal Engagement. I think that the Princess movies are supposed to be loosely based on the novels by Meg Cabot, but the second one doesn't follow the books at all...I want to know what happened to Michael!!

MIA SHOULD HAVE MARRIED HIM!

Both movies were still pretty great (I think Julie Andrews is awesome!). But I would have added some more info in the movies from the book.

PS: I know movies have a budget and everything can't always fit in, but it maybe could have been better.

*****

I read A WALK TO REMEMBER and fell in love with it. Then I watched the film and it became my favorite movie.

THE OUTSIDERS is my favorite book and the movie was okay. When I was in the 3rd grade, I read CHARLOTTE'S WEB, then my mom got me the movie for Christmas, and it was very good. I don't like most movies that were once books because they always change the story, and they always make things differently from what you see in your head.

*****

I didn't like Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It left out too many details. I did like The Princess Diaries, even though it was nothing like the book.

*****

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is definitely one of my favorite books. In the movie, they changed the plot quite a bit. I kind of liked it, but not as much as the book. The book had a lot more twists and turns, but there was some stuff that wasn't quite "appropriate" for the screen, so that's most likely why they changed it.

*****

My least favorite book made into a movie, in my opinion, is QUEEN OF THE DAMNED by Anne Rice. This book was very detailed and had a lot of pieces that the reader needed to put together. The movie just could not cover so much information. It deleted some of the most important parts of the book just so it could appeal to audiences.

*****

One of my favorite books into movies is Speak. I also like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Lastly I like Holes. I like those movies because they are accurate accounts of the books and I think that quality is very important.

*****

The best movies based on books are:
All the Harry Potter movies
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
A Series of Unfortunate Events

*****

Holes --- I thought that the transition from book to screen was amazing. The movie followed the plot really well (it might have something to do with the author writing the screenplay) and I think the cast was really good.

Harry Potter (all so far) --- The movies are horrible compared to the books. The first one followed the book the closest and was decent, but they've been spiraling down since that one. The fourth one couldn't even be followed by many people who hadn't read the book, which I think is a bad sign. A lot of good scenes have been cut out of the movies to make way for action scenes that didn't actually exist. Although I think the acting has been pretty outstanding, some of the casting bothered me. I also think it sucks that they've taken out so much of Hermione's scenes (in The Sorcerer's Stone they took out her scene with the potions, which is one of the most well-written scenes in the book. They also took out S.P.E.W. and her "dirt" on Rita Skeeter), making her just a semi-obnoxious stuck-up who knows almost everything and happens to be a cute girl, who is a sort of love interest for Ron.

*****

I loved that THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE by C.S. Lewis was made into a film. It closely resembled the book. I was so amazed at how much it resembled the book that I reread the whole series again.

*****

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was a really good movie, I love it! But I was disappointed by Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. It was really pathetic, but the books were really good, though.

*****

My favorite book into movie is Holes. It was really great!!

*****

About A Boy
In Her Shoes

*****

I loved the Lord of the Rings adaptation because the pages of description could not be present in the movie. The books moved slowly at times, and while the movies were long, they explained things in ways that were easier to understand.

I loved the Holes adaptation because it was almost exactly the same as the book, which was also brilliant!

I hated the Jurassic Park adaptation(s) because the action, suspense and mysteries were not there. In the book, there are deeper problems and explanations than in the movie(s). The acting was corny and the special effects were horrible. The intensity of the book(s) was not present.

*****

The Notebook
Holes
Harry Potter movies: They are really good but I think they are better books.

*****

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Why has the story changed so much? It is not even just a few details...massive chunks of plot are missing, as are crucial characters!

*****

The Wizard of Oz - I used to hate it because the monkeys scared me when I was little.
Beauty and the Beast - I have seen it so many times.
Cinderella - Even though I have seen it so many times, I still like to watch it with my 6-year-old sister.

*****

My least favorite books into movies are The Wizard of Oz, because it is kind of scary and so annoying with the little people, and Charlotte's Web because I am too old for that stuff.

*****

I thought Harry Potter was cool, but the movie was awesome and the book was not as entertaining. I like movies a lot more.

*****

Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

They were good because they had interesting stories, and the directors (for the movies) were good.

*****

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I like these books because they were interesting and they caught my attention while reading them. The movies were interesting too.

*****

Least:
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW into 10 Things I Hate About You. I liked the movie until I read this play. It was loosely based on Shakespeare and took out the really neat plot-developing themes of the novel and the well-developed characters.

Most:
A Walk to Remember. I love this movie because it is a sweet tear-jerker that has some true values. The book and the movie differ a lot, but I think the movie did well at staying true to the theme and the changes that were made were good for the time period. It is one of my favorite movies.

*****

All the Harry Potters - they do a great job keeping true to the story.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, because of the casting of the girls.
The Chronicles of Narnia - It was my favorite book growing up and I loved seeing it on the big screen.

*****

The Chronicles of Narnia
The Outsiders
Eragon

Those are my three favorite books so I am so happy they were turned into movies.
