DEALING WITH DRAGONS by Patricia C. Wrede, 3 1/2 stars
Well, now that I'm on Christmas break, I have more time to read. I've already read one book. It's called DEALING WITH DRAGONS by Patricia C. Wrede. It's about a girl who doesn't want to marry a prince so she volunteers to be a princess owned by a dragon. The book is very funny, with many references to different fairy tales, but compared to other fantasy books I've read, it is not as good. I would give this book three and a half stars.

ENCHANTMENT by Orson Scott Card, 5 stars
One of my favorite books of all time is ENCHANTMENT by Orson Scott Card. I give it five stars and it is the Russian Sleeping Beauty story with a twist. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys time travel, adventure, romance, and/or fairy tales.

I'm reading A DOOR NEAR HERE by Heather Quarles ***** (5 stars)
It's about a girl and her siblings that have to basically survive on their own because their mom is divorced and drunk all day and doesn't have a job. The little girl read the Narnia books and believes in Narnia and thinks that she sees the door to Narnia near her school by the "forbidden" woods. The older girl has to get around this problem and other problems, like no food, and how do the kids go to school since the little girl can't because the teachers want her to see a psychiatrist first. When they take her to school, a teacher finds out and a whole new set of problems start. It's an excellent book, reading about the problems and the somewhat realistic situation. You're rooting for the kids all the way.
Other books I've enjoyed:
AND BOTH WERE YOUNG by Madeleine L'engle, 4.5 stars
The PRYDAIN CHRONICLES by Lloyd Alexander (great fantasy series) 5 stars
THE ICEBERG HERMIT (supposedly based on a true story) by Arthur Roth 5 stars
A MURDER FOR HER MAJESTY by Hilgartner 5.5 stars/5 stars

THE VIEW FROM SATURDAY by E. L. Konigsburg, 4 stars
I just finished reading THE VIEW FROM SATURDAY by E. L. Konigsburg. It is the story of four sixth-graders and their teacher who picks them to be on the quiz bowl team. Within the book there are four short stories, one for each of the members and shows how they are intertwined. I have read this book before and I think that it was better the first time I read it, but it is still a book I would recommend. I give it four stars.

THE SNOW QUEEN by Joan D. Vinge, 4 1/2 stars
Right now I am reading a book called THE SNOW QUEEN by Joan D. Vinge. It is of the science fiction genre and has a complicated plot. It is the story of the corrupt Snow Queen, who rules the planet Tianamet, which is populated by two races of people, the Winters and the Summers, and other races (the offworlders) who come to stay and trade in the biggest cities. It is also the story of the Snow Queen's clone, Moon Dawntreader Summer and the many people she meets in her struggle to save her cousin from the Snow Queen. I'm not finished with the book yet but I can say that it is pretty good. The writing style is a bit difficult to get used to and the plot seems confusing at first, but as the story develops, you get sucked in. I give this book four and a half stars.

OF HUMAN BONDAGE by W. Somerset Maugham, 1 1/2 stars
I thought I'd write about a book that I absolutely HATE. We just finished reading it in school (yay!) and it's called OF HUMAN BONDAGE by W. Somerset Maugham. It is about a boy named Philip and it follows him from the age of six throughout his whole life (well, until he's about thirty...but it feels like longer than that). I hate this book because the character is so annoying and he falls in love with this lady who turns out to be a prostitute and she's ugly (the author describes her as having "sallow green skin") and she uses Philip all the time and he doesn't even care. I'm just glad I don't have to read this book anymore (it was so long..about 653 pages, I think) and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone (no matter how bored you are). I give it one and a half stars (I would give it zero stars, except then I would feel as if I'm being mean to the author).

AALIYAH: More Than a Woman by Christopher John Farley, 4 1/2 stars
The recent book I have read is AALIYAH: More Than a Woman by Christopher John Farley it gives a reading that makes you want to read more and if you are into detailing and mystery this the one I would rate this book a 4 star because though it was a wonderful book he did leave off the subject of the chapters it is also a wonderful book if you would like to mix music and reading especially r&b.

Anne Bishop is a genius. The dark, sensual imagery of this awesome sci-fi novel will totally blow your mind. Set in alternate worlds than our own, DAUGHTER OF THE BLOOD intoduces the reader to characters that are humanoid, but fantastical. They can do magic (cool magic, though, not Dave Copperfield stuff) and their society's caste system is made up of a matriarchal system, where women rank the highest! With Ms Bishop's vivid description of the setting it truly feels like you are IN the book, and the characters are not only beautiful, but sexy too... let's just say your everyday soap opera has nil on this. Amazing fiction to make you crave dress up clothes and will leave you in a state of euphoria, wishing you could be a witch and date Daemon Sadi, the resident HOTTIE!
Just a word of caution: If you don't like gore, maybe you should read with one eye closed, but still take a peek!

CYBERNATION by Steve Perry, Steve R. Pieczenik
created by: Tom Clancy, 3 stars
I read this book less than two weeks ago, and I've already forgotten most of what happened. It is such an average book. All the ingrediants of a really good techno-thriller are there, but it never gets going. Its worth the time spent (if you have a lot of extra time to spend), but it isn't worth the money.

Recently I read TIME ENOUGH for Drums by Ann Rinaldi. Like most of her excellent books, the story has a historical basis and is set during the American Revolutionary War. It is about a spirited girl named Jemima, age fifteen, and her patriotic family, who gets somewhat torn apart throughout the course of the war. It is also about her tutor, Mr. John Reid, who is a Tory. The readers soon learn, however, that appearances can be deceiving. The book is very well-written and allows readers to learn about history in an enjoyable way. I would give this book four and a half stars.

After reading recommendations in magazine after magazine, I finally decided to buy SLOPPY FIRSTS by Megan McHafferty. It was such a great book that I would definitely recommend to every teenage girl. The book tells a great story, and I simply couldn't put it down!

I'm reading A BREAK WITH CHARITY by Ann Rinaldi. It's about the Salem Witch
Trials. I'd probalby give it about a 5 if I was judging ( on a 1-5 scale ). It's about a girl named Susannah English who very well knwo the girls who are supposedly " afflicted " by a witch. As she comes to help the girls, she decides to do a little investigating about the afflictions. She questions Ann Putnam, who is one of the afflicted girls. Ann tells her that they are all lying. There never really was any witches. She also says, though that if Susannah spills, then they will name her family as her tormenters. When the day arrives that they will name their tormenters, Susannah fears for her family. But she also feels the urge to tell everyone there that they are lying. When the girls release the names, very suprising answers come out. What follows the trial is also very mysterious and captivating. I think that anyone who is in to suspense, and history should read this book.
