This contest period's winner was kybiris@IowaTelecom.net, who received copy of THE SECOND SUMMER OF THE SISTERHOOD by Ann Brashares.

I just finished reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. That is one of the best books I've ever read. Other awesome books I've read have been Gingerbread, Love Ya Like a Sister, The Life History of a Star and Tears of a Tiger. I would highly recommend reading The Life History of a Star, because it is funny and entertaining. Tears of a Tiger is a very sad book about a kid that was drunk driving and his best friend got killed in the accident. It was a very good book! Another series that would be excellent to read is the Chronicles of Narnia. They are a lot more interesting and mature than Harry Potter. They are awesome! Other excellent books are Stargirl, the Make Lemonade trilogy, About a Boy and The Outsiders. Other books that I'm starting to read that I recommend are The Queen of Everything and the Gossip Girls series.

I have quite a few suggestions this time from almost any type of book except sci fi, fantasy, horror and western.. okay not every type of book! But there are a lot!

First... Dead Famous by Ben Elton (i think thats the author) anyways it a really neat book about these people who live in a reality house and the last one standing wins money... well during the show someone gets killed and they have to try to figure out who. It took me a while to really get into the book because I'm use to reading not so serious books but once I did it was really good!

Other good books are anything by Gordon Korman especially the Bruno and Boots Books (ie MacDonald Hall Goes Hollywood) these books are so funny for absolutely any age you just have to read one and you'll be hooked!

Another awesome author is Lurlene McDaniel I loved all of her books, they are really sad but I couldn't put them down. The way she builds her characters just makes you feel like you truely know them.

Any of Louise Rennisons books are amazing they are sooo hilarious another book serious I could not put down! I love them. If you haven't read them pick one up soon!!!!!

Oooo there are so many good books I've read lately... too many to choose from! Gingerbread by Rachel cohn was a good book... a little different but I finished it and thats always a good sign.

I think the last one for this time will be Boy Still Missing by John Searles, this was another book it took me a while to get into but it was such a good book i've read it 3 times since. I suggest it to anyone who is trying to make the move from teen fiction to just plain old fiction. It was really good! Thats it for me! I'm sure you'll hear from me again soon!

I'm reading the Making Waves series by Applegate, and the Alphabetical Hook-up list series by McPhee. Both series are pretty good. At points they are somewhat cheesy, but I'm enjoying them. They are great summer, relaxing reads.

I read a lot of books, and the book I am reading now is called Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul Letters. It’s very comforting knowing that there are girls out there just like me, writing to the Chicken Soup books. Now I know I’m not alone. The poems and letters in that book are simply awesome. I’ll think I’ll give that book 5 *s. I give all the Chicken Soup Books 5 *s. There’s a batch of Chicken Soup for any kind of soul! Go out and read them!

I just read Angus, Thongs, and Full - Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison and it is this hilarious look at a British teen's life. This book definitely gets 11 stars out of 10 because everyone can relate to this teen's life. Although some of the British slang maybe incomprehensible, the book comes with a translation of British slang to help the reader understand.

We had to read To Kill a Mockingbird for school, and usually i don't like the books that schools pick for required reading, but this is my new favorite book. I'm a total bookworm and really picky when it comes to books, but after To Kill a Mockingbird I love reading the classics!!! I recommend it to everybody.

I just finished reading THE GUARDIAN by Nicholas Sparks. Compared to his other books, I would say that this book was not one of his best. While I liked the idea of adding an element of suspense, I thought that some parts were overdone. Then again, other parts were done incredibly, so I guess they even out. Overall, I would give this book 4/5 *'s. If you enjoyed his other novels, then you will probably like this one as well.

I am into reading classics right now, and have always liked historical fiction. Here's a few I like:

War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy
-it is known by many as the 'best' novel ever written, and I found it very interesting, with the many characters and connecting events. I think it is timeless and cross-cultural. I give it 3.5/5 stars.

Here Be Dragons, by Sharon Key Penman
-very cool novel, set in Wales and England during the Middle Ages. The characters are really well-developed and you really get emotionally involved. Most of the characters are historical figures, princes and
princesses, lords and ladies, but some are made up. The author has many books like this one, and Here Be Dragons in the first in a triology. I give it 4.5/5 stars.

HARPER HALL SERIES: DragonSong, DragonSinger, and DragonDrums by Anne McCafferey. * * * * *
Welcome to Pern, the planet on which men ride Dragons, silver rain called Thread which destroys all touches falls every 200 or so years, and a teenage girl can impress nine of the facinating creatures known as Fire Lizards. All of this can be found in the Harper Hall series by Anne McCafferey, the story of Menolly, a girl with amazing inner spirit and a remarkable gift for music. When the dreaded Thread falls, the Dragons take to the sky, to combat it, fire the only substance that can destroy it. Menolly, who has been raised to think girls are not equal to boys in any way, shape or form, eventually leaves her home at Half-Circle Sea Hold, only to find herself caught in Thread---and the only hope to save an entire clutch of Fire Lizard eggs. Her story is an exciting one; between running her feet raw, and meeting more musicians than she ever imagined, not to mention the MasterHarper of Pern, she will eventually learn what it means to trust and believe in herself. Definitely five stars.

Beauty by Robin McKinley. * * * * *
Think about the most incredible romance story you've ever heard. If you haven't read Beauty by Robin McKinley, then you haven't heard it yet. This wonderful retelling of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, is one of the best books ever published. McKinley's first and probably best novel is enchanting and great to get wrapped up in. The characters become new and unique, as does the story, with interesting twists and wonderful dialogue. Robin McKinley has also written other retellings of classic stories, such as Spindle's End, based on Sleeping Beauty, The Outlaws of Sherwood based on the Robin Hood legend, as well as her captivating originals, The Hero and the Crown, its sequel, The Blue Sword and Deerskin. McKinley's writing is marvelous, and always a joy to read. Beauty is my favorite, and I totally give it five stars.

A Gang-War gone crazy…Kidnapping…Car theft…Murder…and Vampires. I have recently completed Vivian Vande Velde's fast-paced adventure, Companions of the Night, and I am completely blown away. Because of this book, I have become an instant fan of Vande Velde. This story of the sixteen-year-old girl named Kerry Nowicki, who goes to the local Laundromat one night to retrieve her little brother's koala bear on a learner's permit and runs into more than she bargained for, never flags. It raises a lot of questions about the value of life, death, and most importantly, about the choices we make. The third person almost feels like first because of the detailed thoughts from Kerry's point of view. And, as a side note, one of the best things about actually reading this book is the subtle and sarcastic humor that Vande Velde uses constantly throughout the story. Kerry and Ethan's humorous banter and dialogue keeps you turning the pages continuously, craving for more. The beginning is a bit slow, but once the race begins, you absolutely can't put it down. Companions of the Night is a fantastic read, and I definitely, without question, give it the five stars it deserves.

Right now I'm reading Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. It's about a little boy trying to find his identity and growing up. His mother and father's family backgrounds oppose each other. His mom's side are farmers, and his dad's side are wandering cowboys. He doesn't know which side he wants to please. It's magical realism, so it's not really my favorite genre. 2 *'s.

Right now I am reading Youth in Revolt The Journals of Nick Twisp by C.D. Payne. This book is very good but I think you should be a guy if you read this. I don't know but it just seems like it is geared more to the male side. If you are into reading about other people's lives and getting more in-depth into a book. I suggest you check it out. I give it 3 stars out of 5.
