WORD OF MOUTH

July 2005

Tell Us What You Are Reading...Find Out What Other Teens Are Reading.

This contest period's winner was hip_hop_babe9@hotmail.com, who received a copy of THE MINISTER'S DAUGHTER by Julie Hearn.

imagine_toast@yahoo.com
I'm reading Heart on My Sleeve by Ellen Wittlinger --- very, very good book. Boring at points, but in the end all is good.

Cutiepie9951330@aol.com
I am currently reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. I love all of these books (I just finished the third and final one). These books were so good that I let my mom read them, and she let her friends read them. We went to the theater to see the movie. It was kind of a letdown because the books were so good and I don't think that the movie could have ever measured up to that. Overall the movie was worth watching, but if you saw the movie and didn't read the books, you should definitely read the books!

Yogagurl1992@aol.com
Right now I am reading Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale by Holly Black. This is a very good book. It captures you and you can't put it down. This book makes fantasy seem so real.

landonsgurl401@charter.net
If I had to recommend a book, I think it would have to be Smack by Melvin Burgess. I give it 5 stars because it shows how a thing can take over your life completely and change people. I didn't think I would like it, but it really opened my eyes. Read it if you can; I think you'll enjoy it.

fionat2000@hotmail.com
I just finished Adultery by Richard B. Wright, the Governor General award-winning author of Clara Callan. Adultery is about a man, Dan Fielding, who is an editor. He goes to Europe on business and starts having an affair with one of his colleagues who is twenty-three years younger than him. Then she is murdered, and his life changes drastically. He becomes hounded by the press, and it has an impact on his wife and fifteen year-old daughter, too. This is a great book with fluent, accessible prose. It kept me interested and I give it 4 stars.

lilmissangel11@comcast.net
Keep in Touch: Notes, Letters, and More from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Random House.
This book was interesting and included tips on writing your own cool letters! It supplied letters that the girls had written from age 11 to 16 and shared them all.

P.S. Longer Letter Later by Paula Danziger and Ann M. Martin.
This is a book of true problems where two girls in one great friendship are separated by long distance. One moves from New Jersey to Ohio so her parents can sort out their hectic life, and the other has problems coming her way. Can the friendship stay together with the friends so far apart? Or will it crumble into pieces?

slim14jeans@aol.com
I read The Minister's Daughter by Julie Hearn and it was amazing. I loved it! I also really loved Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause. I read it so many times.

Love0fthegame4@aol.com
Right now I am reading The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz, The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen, and Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. They are all awesome books and I recommend them to anyone who loves reading about relationships, friends, summer, and of course, boys!

baileyboo148@hotmail.com
A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly is a wonderful book! It is about a girl growing up in the 1900s in upstate New York. The author keeps you guessing in this one. I loved it. 5 out of 5 stars!!

Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen is interesting. It's a fairly quick read about a boy and a girl growing up together, and how their feelings toward each other change. I'd say 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

And of course, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was awesome. 5 out of 5 stars.

sweeps_101@yahoo.com
I am catching up on my reading and am reading When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. I would give it 4 stars --- can't wait to read more of the set.

party_lots247@hotmail.com
Doing It by Melvin Burgess. This book gives you unbelievably honest insight into the lives of three teenage boys, their struggle with losing their virginity, and dealing with the consequences. If you're a boy and want some reassurance, or a girl who just wants to delve into the mind of these hormone-crazed teenage boys, then I recommend this book because it's the funniest and most shocking book I have ever read. It's just good fun too!

msleochick@aol.com

I am reading If We Kiss. It's so good, I love it. Charlotte is a bit like me to.

jazzroberson@yahoo.com

I have to recommend The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz. This book was awesome because it shows what three very different girls brought together to be au pairs in the Hamptons did with all the glamorous people. I could give you all a summary of the book, but it would be less fun than actually reading it. Happy Reading!

katelyn_schultz_001@hotmail.com
I just read Enna Burning by Shannon Hale --- it was a very good book. I would give it 5 stars. It was as good as her first book, The Goose Girl.

ana_lisa@comcast.net
I'm reading a funny book called Maya Running by Anjali Banerjee.

spik_iislistenin@yahoo.ca
Don't Tell by Karen Rose is an awesome book. During the first two chapters you think, "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?" But by the time you get to the middle you won't be able to put this book down. I rate it 4 stars.

komdo_dragon81293@sbcglobal.net
I recommend The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney.

aliensrcoming@verizon.net
Godless by Pete Hautman is amazing! So good!

graceful8977@yahoo.com
One of my all-time favorite books is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is very touching and one I could not put down. It captures the reader right away!

animefreak1011@hotmail.com
I loved The New Rules of High School by Blake Nelson. I give it 5 stars. It deals with a lot of pressures that we have to deal with as teenagers.

MountainStream97@yahoo.com
I have finally got my hands on Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson, and I rate it a 5. I started it in the late afternoon, and finished it that very night, with an awed look upon my face.

It's a gripping, fast-paced thriller, leading you from page to page, and really leaves you wanting more. You kind of just want to go stalk Mr. Patterson, sneak into his house, and take a peek at his computer, at whatever he's got down so far for the next book in the series. Just kidding!

But trust me --- it's EXCELLENT.

geneva.cole@gmail.com
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares.
It was a good book. Very well written to capture your interest.

Tangerine
by Edward Bloor.
This book was very sad. Both of his books are unique tales about troubled lives.

Crusader by Edward Bloor.
This was also an extremely good book about a girl who has much to discover about herself, her mother's death, and her father.

A String in the Harp by Nancy Bond.
This was a good book because it captured my interest in the first couple of paragraphs. It was a book where one finds it almost impossible to put down. This book was also about a girl who's mother died.

The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot.
These books help relate to my normal life in the "not quite princess"
part, but they are very good books; in fact I can read one of them in a day. The storyline is stupendous and easy to follow throughout all six (or is it seven?) books that are out.

m_jjournel15@yahoo.com
The book I'm recommending is called Trixie Belden and the Mystery of the Secret Mansion. There are more books after this but this is the first. It's mostly a cheesy mystery book, but Trixie is like an actual teenager. If you've read Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys, you know they may be entertaining but just don't seem real! Well, Trixie is like a teenager! And it shows! But there's also a lot of exciting and funny moments.

blood4snow@gmail.com
I read all of Sophie Kinsella's books at once. I couldn't put them down --- they're truly addictive and so hilarious. Dang, I love the Shopaholic books.

Can You Keep a Secret? is as wonderful as all the other books too. 5 stars here!

Also, The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen is a rather serious one, but it's one of my favorites for sure.

angelsdoexist47922@yahoo.com
I recommend everyone read a book called Pledged by Alexandra Robbins. It's an inside look at sororities.

XxEmo_TasticxX@yahoo.com
I am reading Define "Normal" by Julie Anne Peters

bekkabrown@yahoo.com
I am reading Lirael, the sequel to Sabriel by Garth Nix. It is a very excellent book about dark magic. It is a page-turner that will keep you guessing until the end. I recommend this to all action/adventure/fantasy lovers.

smoore94@zoomtown.com
So far I am reading Gossip Girl: Because I'm Worth It. I tell ya, this book is totally rated X! It has cursing and sex! I recommend that you must be 14 and over! It is a great book. All that it is about is life, but the book is so amazing. I give it Infinity stars.

alyssasw@yahoo.com
Rhymes with Witches by Lauren Myracle. 5 stars.
This book is fabulous --- it's about a girl's rise and fall with the infamous school bitches.

cemmons1@netzero.com
I will read anything and everything. I loved the book A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. It made me wish that I was as sharp-witted and adventurous as Genna was. It was definitely a book that made me excited to do new, secret things in life. I relate to her because I have a group of four friends like she did and we are even closer than the group of girls in the book. We have our own secrets and personal wishes like the girls. We also fear what the future holds for us, but we get up every morning and face each day with courage and determination. I loved the book and couldn't put it down. It took me one day to read.

losthopecrazyworld@hotmail.com
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (the whole series) and the Chicken Soup books.

coolfool4uz@yahoo.com
All-American Girl by Meg Cabot. 5 stars.
I give this book 5 out of 5 because it was so well-written. Honestly, after reading it I felt like the characters could've been my friends. I really could relate to them because they are going through real life experiences.

anmberr@yahoo.com
Hey you guys and girls --- for all you out there who like to read, you would really enjoy Because I'm Worth It by Cecily von Ziegesar. I give it 4 stars...it's a really great book.

melanie050489@hotmail.com
I'm reading Rosie Rushton's Last Seen Wearing Trainers, and it is amazing! It's all a book needs: suspense, love, twists --- it's got the lot! I especially like the way it is organized. The chapters are set out in the characters' thoughts, which I think is really good! I hope others decide to read it and enjoy it as much as I have so far :)

BlindlyBookish@aol.com
The Princess Bride by William Goldman. 5 stars.
Jane and the Stillroom Maid by Stephanie Barron. 4 stars.

sunflower_ksgirl09@yahoo.com
What Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci. 5 stars!
A very good book.

Pirates! by Celia Rees. 4 stars!
Awesome book.

Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis. 4 stars!
I love the Narnia books.

The Prodigal by Beverly Lewis. 5 stars!
I love Abram's Daughters series. Can't wait to read book 5, The Revelation.

aliengirl444@yahoo.com
I am going to recommend Dancing Naked by Shelley Hrdlitschka. It was a wonderful book about 16-year-old Kia, who gets pregnant and realizes that only she will be taking care of the baby. She then become friends with Justin, her 23-year-old counselor, who helps her decide the best way for her baby's life. It was sad, yet happy. A must-read. 5 stars.

Likeicare@hellokitty.com
Hi...I love to read!! I'm out of school, and yet I still read. It's like I can't get enough of books!!! The most recent book I've just finished was The China Garden by Liz Berry. If you're a typical teenage girl, like myself, and you're into a little romance and mystery, this is a book for you!! Another romantic mystery book would be Loving Constance by Lyn Cote. I really like this book!!!

hd_45@hotmail.com
Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. Unbelievably good! 5 stars.

eternally218@gmail.com
Rainbow Boys and Rainbow High by Alex Sanchez.
Though I am not gay or anything, I loved this book, which totally touched me. Total page-turner, and I've read them both three times.

Alice on Her Way by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.
The new book in the Alice series. The last one I did not enjoy so much, but this one was a page-turner that I could not put down. It made me excited, and it's everything a series book should be.

camilamotte@hotmail.com
The True Meaning of Cleavage by Mariah Fredericks is a teen novel about best friends, boys, and peer pressure. Its a nice book but didn't keep me interested as much as I had hoped. 3 stars.

Shrimp by Rachel Cohn is the sequel to the AWESOME book, Gingerbread. It's a great book because Cyd is so in love with Shrimp (a boy, not a fish) and adores him so much. But luckily, she realizes that there's more out there. So she stops waiting for him and starts hanging out more with her family. Plus, it's so good because it's not a "goody goody" novel; there are serious issues discussed in this book other than just romance. 5 stars.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is an older novel (circa late 1930s), but is a great book about friendship. I wouldn't say it's a book for all ages (a few cuss words), but for both boys and girls. The movie (with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich) is very true to the book, so after you read this, get a hold of the DVD. 5 stars.

And as of now, I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I think it's very good so far (Chapter 7) and definitely worth reading (my sisters think the book AND the movie are wonderful). 4 stars.

If anyone has any suggestions for good books to read, can you email me a list? PLEASE! Maybe an exchange of lists could be in the works...hmm....

dork_wad_1521@yahoo.com
I would recommend The Dead Don't Dance by Charles Martin for older teens. It was one of the best books I read this year. His writing is graceful and flows perfectly. I would give this book 3 1/2 stars. I would also recommend Shattering Glass by Gail Giles for anyone in high school. It's about a boy in the in-crowd who brings a total spaz to the group, but it has a twist and you will read it in one day.

fried_phish@yahoo.com
I would recommend Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. It is about a society where all the ugly, or mundane, people are turned into beautiful people on their 18th birthday. They live in segregated areas, and being "pretty" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

pinky_pie_2011@yahoo.com
I recommend The Clique series by Lisi Harrison. I just came back from a vacation in London, where I finished all three of them (The Clique, Best Friends for Never, and Revenge of the Wannabes) in 10 days. I had to buy two of the three in London, and believe me, that isn't so easy when you are looking for an American book!

vintagerocker09@yahoo.com
Romiette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper is a modern day Romeo and Juliet story. It is a true love story that shows the struggles of two people who are from very different backgrounds but who love each other. It gets 4 stars.

viksta_tricksta123@yahoo.com
This month I've read Artemis Fowl and am currently reading Septimus Heap, Book One: Magyk by Angie Sage.

boyes1@peoplepc.com
I am currently reading Lirael, one of Garth Nix's works. It is beautifully written, and on a 1-5 scale, I'd give it a 5. That also goes for Tamora Pierce's and J.K. Rowling's works because all three of them are great authors. Christopher Paolini is also a great author and I recommend reading his first book Eragon; if you like that, read Eldest.

Deb@code50.com
Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen was an excellent book. I loved it and I recommend it to...everyone!

k8yuellig@cinci.rr.com
A Series of Unfortunate Events, the Sammy Keyes series, anything by Sharon Creech or Eva Ibboston. Scribbler of Dreams is really good but kind of lovey dovey. The Dark is Rising is really good, and I would recommend it to anyone who liked A Wrinkle in Time or A Swiftly Tilting Planet. If you like books that are not about fairy tale princesses living happily ever after, try reading anything by Sonya Sones. I have to mention just one more, which is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

vampire_godess15@yahoo.com
I would recommend reading A Walk to Remember and The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. Both books are really good and Mr. Sparks is an excellent author.

SakuraFlower8@aol.com
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. 5 big stars!! What can I say, it was made into a movie. It's about four girls who have these magical pants and each girl has to do something outrageous in them. Well...you have to read it because words are hard to explain since it was great!!

Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging. by Louise Rennison. 4 stars.
If you like The Princess Diaries, you should read this one. It's just like it but with British humor!

A Great and Terrible Beauty
by Libba Bray. 5 stars!!!
This book is great, I couldn't put it down.

anonymous_jessica@yahoo.com
Here's some angsty books that are more mature and a little heavy:

All the John Marsden books (especially the Tomorrow series). He is my all-time favorite author and is the most amazing author according to me.

Marylin Halvorson books - very good books, full of sarcasm and grim humour. But also, you really feel sorry for the main character(s) because of the issues they are going through.

Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. My second favorite book in the entire universe. It's very, very heavy and is definitely not for the squeamish. It takes place during the Vietnam War (I think it's Vietnam).

Dreadful Sorry by Kathryn Reiss.
The only fantasy book I've ever read, and it was amazing!!! It's not even really fantasy, it's about reincarnation. Very good and beautifully written.

All the Ken Follett books - You will not find them in the YA section though. They are in the adult section and are very graphic. Check out Eye of the Needle and Jackdaws by him.

I read Cut by Patricia McCormick, but I personally found it a little less mature than I expected, but it's okay I suppose.

Send me some recommendations!

shanaenae_09@yahoo.com
I just finished reading The Raging Quiet by Sherryl Jordan, and I would definitely recommend it. It tells a story of love more deeply than I could of ever imagined. It shows a 16-year-old girl going through a rough marriage, and a perfect one.

eclecticallyme@juno.com
I'm reading Guitar Girl by Sarra Manning, and even though I've just started it, it is wonderful. Especially for fans of music because you can just imagine what "The Hormones" sound like.

crazypixielady@yahoo.com
I am going to recommend A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. It’s a book that will entrance you and make you not want to put it away. You will relate to the main character, Gemma --- a girl who just lost her mother and is discovering horrifying things about her mother's past and her own future. If you have ever lost someone before really getting to know the good and the bad things about them. I would give this book 5 stars!

shaybay8_queen@yahoo.com

I would recommend Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Out of all the Harry Potter books, I liked it the most.

Insane_Hurricane@cox.net
I'm reading Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, and it is excellent. I have to admit I saw the movie before I read it, but there is a lot of stuff it left out. It is definitely worth reading.

shanny6890@yahoo.com

Gossip Girl #2: You Know You Love Me by Cecily von Ziegesar
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Ready or Not: An All-American Novel by Meg Cabot

gmsbrittani44@hotmail.com
Summer Boys by Hailey Abbott. I love it.
Next Summer by Hailey Abbott. I love it; more exciting than the first.

I love to read. I take after my mom and dad, so I guess you could say it is a family tradition.

girlnamedfreak@sbcglobal.net
On A Night Like This by Ellen Sussman. 5 stars.
Now I must say that the ending was incredibly sad. It's a wonderful book and it helped me learn about the important and fun things about life.

aliensrcoming@verizon.net
Caribbean Cruising by Rachel Hawthorne is an excellent book! It's romantic and funny.

numblestheclown@aol.com
I have to say that the best book I've read recently is The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. I actually spent all day reading it and I couldn't believe everything that was happening. Really, it's great; read it if you get the chance.

gsiebert@telus.net
I would recommend Midnight Predator by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. It is an intriguing and fast-paced novel, combining adventure and emotion flawlessly. I would give it 5 stars!

venezuelangirl1@hotmail.com
I recommend Guardians of the Lost by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. This book is not appealing to the eye, but when I read the first chapter I couldn't put it down!

LivingforJesus10@aol.com
The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks is definitely a must-read for the summer. It is full of suspense and, of course, a little bit of romance. This book is very hard to put down. I give it 4 stars.

tdance11@hotmail.com
I recommend the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella to all teenage girls interested in not only reading, but shopping as well!

TeranLee16@aol.com
Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes. 1 star.
I just finished this book. I thought it might be good but it felt like a chore to read. I wanted to give the book a chance so I finished it, but it was really boring. This book barely deserves 1 star, but I like one of the students.

TeranLee16@aol.com
The Year My Life Went Down the Loo by Katie Maxwell. 5 stars.
This book was fun and funny. I finished it in a day. I think the main character's personality makes this book fantastic.

What's French For "Ew"? by Katie Maxwell. 5 stars.
This was another awesome story. I love how everything in her life goes wrong and she is left to deal with these completely embarrassing situations.

Hate You by Graham McNamee. 5 stars.
This book was short but I loved it. I wish it had been longer. It was great.

The Trouble With Liberty by Kristin Butcher. 4 stars.
This was really, really short but I liked Ryan and the main character. I thought that the author wrapped it up really well. Justice was served.

fantasyblue28@yahoo.com
To Catch a Prince by Gillian McKnight is really good. What was really odd, and had a funny twist to it, was that I found myself relating a lot with Helen and my sister as Alexis. I recommend it to everyone; it is a little childish but I am a Prince William dreamer and loved the plot so I didn't very much care. I rate this 4 out of 5 stars because the ending was a little disappointing, but it was still very good and funny. I hope there is a sequel.

standardbred_91@hotmail.com
I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I loved it the first time I read it and thought I would read it again. It puts some magic into my life.

melmelnpurple@yahoo.com
The Looking Glass is a great book to read. It gives you a multi-character point in perspective, and gives you their life stories. Not only is the book twisted with emotions, but the more I read the book, the more I felt that I was in touch with all the other characters. Not only was this story good, but Richard Paul Evans knew how and when to place all the characters and their point in time when it would heighten the story. This book is one of the greatest I've ever read. I would rate it 4 thumbs up!

frankiewow@aol.com
I'm reading The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. It's a classic and everyone should read it and all of his others, which can range from Drama/Suspense to Romance. 5 stars.

lola.neuwirth@gmail.com
The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot.
They're just so funny. I'm hopelessly addicted. Great summer read --- quick and fun.

Dreamland by Sarah Dessen.
A bit heavy for a teen book, but delightful nonetheless. I really loved the characters, even if they didn't make the best choices.

hip_hop_babe9@hotmail.com
I'm reading Naughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman. It's a great and absorbing read.

nianne22@yahoo.com
I recommend The Naming by Alison Croggon. It's a great book.

I also recommend the Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. The first book is a "kiddy adventure" but the next two in the series are much deeper. The characters develop wonderfully.

I recommend The Cup of the World and its sequel, The Widow and the King by John Dickinson. They are very interesting books. They are darker and have enchanting heroes.

softball_luva08@sbcglobal.net
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. 5 stars.
Eragon (The Inheritance Trilogy) by Christopher Paolini. 4 stars.
A Tale of Time City by Diana Wynne Jones. 4 stars.
The Queen of Everything by Deb Caletti. 3 stars.

standardbred_91@hotmail.com
I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I want to make sure I'm up to speed on what is happening when I read the 6th book. I am so excited.

littleraskle@hotmail.com
I am reading Tall Cool One by Zoey Dean. It's the new addition to The A-List series, and actually I've just finished it. It was quite impressive. I'd give it 4 stars.

tweeti420@aol.com
Gossip Girl series. I love these books! They are so good.

Coolnacario@hotmail.com

I'm going to have to recommend Children of the Lamp: The Akhenaten Adventure by P.B. Kerr. It's an amazing book that Harry Potter fans would really enjoy. There's action, adventure, and mystery. 4 stars.

smartmouth1@hotmail.com
I would recommend the Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan, because they captivate you and make you feel like you are one of the characters. I suggest that if you love vampires or heart-stopping thrillers you should read it! They are the best books ever!

shortygirl92@hotmail.com
The book that I just can't seem to put down is Bras and Broomsticks by Sarah Mlynowski. It's a great book for teenage girls. I love it because I can relate to it; we all wish we could have some kind of power.

mtdew_muzik_luvr@yahoo.com
I just read Francine Pascal's Fearless #1, and it's awesome. I've started loving it.

I also like Meg Cabot's books, like The Mediator, The Princess Diaries, Teen Idol, All-American Girl, Missing...I love them. Meg is a great author.

I like R.L. Stine's Fear Street series --- they are cool.

xchristinarz@yahoo.com
I just read Lily's Ghosts by Laura Ruby. It was a strange mystery, but it's mesmerizing. I read chapter after chapter until I was finished in two days!

baby_gurl023@hotmail.com
The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz. 5 stars.
It was written very well, and I couldn't put it down! If you like reading about the famous, material-girl life, it has just the right amount of it. It also has lots of problems that normal teens face all the time.

Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty. 4 stars.
It's about a normal high school girl, and her quest for finding love and sex, basically. It's really funny and I enjoyed reading it a lot.

Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty. 5 stars all the way.
This is the sequel to Sloppy Firsts, and it was so great. You continue on Jessica's little journey, and I think almost everyone can relate to her. It's very funny again and an awesome read.

rockerchic27th1@sbcglobal.net
Because the movie The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is coming out, I bought the The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. It's one of the best books that I have read.

origamigrl891@yahoo.com
The Diary of Ma Yan, the best book ever.

aditi91@sify.com
Gone With The Wind is definitely the best book written by Margaret Mitchell. It is fictional, but also quite realistic. 5 stars.

hottie_chick77@hotmail.com
What Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci. It is such a good book. So is Head Games.

ren5@poetic.com
Love and Other Four-Letter Words by Carolyn Mackler is a fun story about the problems of a teen girl. 5 stars!

Dyingangel027@aol.com
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson really spoke to me and moved me. It inspired me. 5 stars

So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld was a really good book too. It really made me think, and I got really mad when I finished it because I didnt want it to end. 5 stars.

Shattering Glass by Gail Giles is one of my very favorite books because its kind of sad and suspenseful. I wish it was a movie! 5 stars.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini. I just cannot even put the book down because it keeps me on the edge of my seat. I give the book 5 stars.

I just read The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. It's a fun book with cool creatures called Daemons. They are little shape-shifting animals that protect humans, and when the humans grow up the Daemons take to one form. Evil people are trying to "cut" children away from their Daemon (which is a very bad thing) to protect them from something called dust, which I think turns out to be a good thing. So a little girl who is the "Chosen one," so to speak, will not bring balance to the force people, but will bring the end of destiny. I don't get that part very well...I think they will explain it later in another book.

The Party Room series. These are the best books ever. They have awesome endings, and everyone should read them.

Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks.
It is something that makes you change your thought of perseverance. A story that lets you know you have no boundries. I would recommend this book definitely.

Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes.
A down to earth story that really brings the meaning of bravery and determination into your mind; a story that makes you question yourself in ways you never have. Overall, its a piece of work.

Mary, Queen of France by Jean Plaidy.
A story about survival, and ultimate determination. When you read this it brings into sight the fact that no matter who you are, life gets tough. Some people crumble under pressure, but this shows you some people are willing to fight for love. An inspiration not just to everyone, this story speaks singly to each reader. To read this book is to feel every emotion and stand to every same obstacle as Mary.

broadwaybaby1314@sbcglobal.net
I recommend the Sisterhood series. It is very relevant to everything teens go through, and I found that I related almost perfectly to the character, Carmen. I also recommend White Oleander. It isn't a teen read, but it is extremely well-written, and the characters and the descriptions are nearly perfect.

I'm reading The Mediator: The Ninth Key (book 2) by Meg Cabot! It is a great book that keeps me interested and wanting more. As soon as I finish, I want to run out and buy the next one! It's at least 4 1/2 stars!

DSCrawford@sbcglobal.net
Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson. 4 stars.
A coming of age novel about a girl who lives on an island and her jealousy of her sister.

usher0816@msn.com
I'm reading the Gossip Girl series. It's really good and funny too. Another good book I'm reading is Jack and Jill by James Patterson. The title may make it sound boring, but it's good! Try it.

haybdancer08@sbcglobal.net
And Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers by Louise Rennison. 5 stars.
This is one of the latest books in the Angus Thongs series. It is an excellent book about a witty English girl, and the trials of her teenage life.

bankslvr05@yahoo.com
I'm reading The Clique. It is very good, I like it. I also read The A-List, and that was good too! If anyone wants a reading buddy, or to talk about books, email me!

I recently finished reading The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian, and definitely recommend it to any teen reader looking for something new, different, and refreshing after all the Gossip Girl-esque books that have been released in the past few years. Highly recommended.

samanthajane_8@hotmail.com
I am currently reading The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. It's a rather slow-paced book. It's taking me forever to read it. It's a good story but I find that important events tend to just blend in with everything else.

rcb21@charter.net
I am reading James Patterson's Cat and Mouse.

queenjolynn@yahoo.com
Story Time by Edward Bloor.
It's a bit strange, but there's a lot of fantasy in it, and surprises everywhere. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

knot.box@gmail.com
I just read Taking Terri Mueller by Norma Fox Mazer and regret that I did not read it last summer for school. 5 stars.

ncangel2005@aol.com
I just finished reading The Nine Lives of Chloe King and it is a very action-filled book that will keep you standing on the balls of your feet.

kelseyangelchild@aol.com
I am an avid reader and I have sooooo many books to recommend!

The China Garden by Liz Berry is an awesome book. Nothing like anything I have ever read before.

Franscesca Lia Block's earlier work. Her latest books have been good, but not great.

Gingerbread and Shrimp (two books) by Rachel Cohn. You will fall in love with the main character, Cid Charise. She has a very original voice.

Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Deb Caletti. An honest tribute to anyone who has ever been in or thought they were in love. Hilarious and touching.

ANYTHING by Ann Rinaldi. I know some people are not big fans of historical fiction, but her books are amazing, and even though the characters in her books are from a different time period, they are all still very relatable.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. A historical/romance/thriller/mystery that will leave you craving for more. Look for the sequel, Rebel Angels, out in late August.

Speak, Catalyst, and Prom (three books) by Laurie Halse Anderson. Speak and Catalyst were amazing, and although Prom was more lighthearted, it is still worth reading.

Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen. I am a huge Dessen fan, but of all of her books I loved this one the most. A great book about valuing who you are and your self-body image.

What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones. A funny book about growing up, written completely in poems!

Frozen Rodeo by Catherine Clark. Funny and touching. Perfect combo!

warrior4dtms@yahoo.com
Heart on My Sleeve by Ellen Wittlinger is a classic gone modern story of long distance love with a surprising twist. 4 1/2 stars.

hoopsrule15@yahoo.com
Perfect by Natasha Friend. 5 stars. It was really good.
Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn. Awesome.
ttyl by Lauren Myracle. 4 1/2 stars.
Girls, Girls, Girls by Jonah Black. Awesome.

afb92@yahoo.com
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen.
I could read this book over and over and over again! It’s just how you would want a love story to go.

Lakeviewgirl01@msn.com
A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce
Goddess of Yesterday by Caroline B. Cooney

karimel10@att.net
I recommend The V Club by Kate Brian. It's a great, fast-paced book and was so hard for me to put down. I'd give this book 4 1/2 stars. I also must recommend A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, even though I have just seen many reviews about it already. That just shows you how great a book it is! 5 stars.

clumsy_3@hotmail.com
I really liked the book Summerland. I think it is great, even though it starts off very weirdly. I also read Running with the Reservoir Pups. I can't wait till the second one comes out, since it is a trilogy.

lisat91@hotmail.com
Blue is for Nightmares by Laurie Faria Stolarz is one of the best books I've ever read; it's a mix between Stephen King's thrillers and Sarah Dessen's Teen Girl novels. 5 stars! Also, The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel is a long, detailed, beautiful novel that skips over nothing when it comes to living in the Pre-Ice Age time. For mature teens only! 5 stars!

cecedancer@hotmail.com
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books are really what made me want to read again. Ever since I read those, I would actually read for fun; before, I only read if I had to.

ellenangel364@yahoo.com
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Crank by Ellen Hopkins
The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place by E. L. Konigsburg

fly_ladie@yahoo.com
Daughters of the Moon series by Lynne Ewing is an amazing story about a group of girls who try to save the world from the demons of the night. I have read every new book that has been added by this amazing author! I can't wait for the next!!

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks is a heartwarming book. I could not put it down, and in the end I was in tears.

melissajrenee@yahoo.com
The Principles of Love (book 1 in a new series) by Emily Franklin. I bought it after reading about it in Ellegirl (which lowered my expectations slightly), but it was really well-written and smart, not to mention funny. Definitely several steps up from the typical "teen" series. 4 1/2 stars.

cassid8@aol.com
Free Fall by Joyce Sweeney.
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham.
Nothing to Lose by Alex Flinn was absolutely FANTASTIC.

Now, I'm working on reading the books written by V.C. Andrews, and a book called Last Chance Texaco by Brent Hartinger.

I would give every last one of those books 5 stars. If I had to recommend one book, and it had to be the best book I ever read, it would be Lucas by Kevin Brooks.

uniqueness89@hotmail.com
Old Magic by Marianne Curley is a great magical romance that ends really well.

The Dark Secrets series by Elizabeth Chandler is really interesting because the four books all have a mystery in them, and the main characters always end up with the guy! The way every book should end, perfectly.

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause was a good read for anyone who likes mystical plots. It's about a teenage werewolf who falls for a human, much to the opposition of her pack.

All of these books are good reads, especially on a rainy day!

quadra_angel@hotmail.com
Go Ask Alice is by far the best book for teen girls who are short of knowledge on the dangers of teen drug abusers. Reading this book I felt for Alice in a way that I have never felt for a character before.

xshopaholic331@yahoo.com
Wifey by Judy Blume. A wonderful read for teens and adults alike!

Year of Secret Assignments
by Jaclyn Moriarty. A funny high school book!

megan19281@gmail.com
While an adult book, the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella is amazingly witty and hilarious!

Confessions of a Shopaholic
. 5 stars.
Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. 5 stars.
Shopaholic Ties the Knot. 5 stars.

Louise Rennison in the same breath is...there aren't even words to describe her. Amazing. I recently finished Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging (5 stars). Currently I'm doing Knocked Out By My Nunga-Nungas and On the Bright Side, and I'm now on Girlfriend of a Sex God.

I recently read a great book by Lauren Myracle (wrote Rhymes with Witches and ttyl) called Kissing Kate --- a coming of age story about a girl dealing with feelings of homosexuality. Good for 13+ teens, and well written.

One book I found disappointing was Nancy Butcher's Beauty. The plot line was a good idea but it was written horribly. It spun out of control and jumped all over the place with no real conclusion (2 stars, only because the plot line was pretty cool).

country_angel44@msn.com
I would highly recommend Hawksong and Snakecharm, the first two books in The Kiesha'ra series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. They are GREAT books! I've been trying to find Falcondance, the third book in this series.

Tavewave@localnet.com
I just finished reading How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff and I highly recommend reading this book --- it made me cry. How I Live Now takes place in the countryside of England, on a farm run by 5 "kids," when a war breaks out and separates them from one another. 5 stars!!!!

Halliebball@aol.com
I really loved reading Shattered Mirror by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. It was just one of those books that I just "couldn't put down" even while doing errands! I give it 5 stars.

naughtychick417@yahoo.com
Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks. 5 stars.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
and The Second Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares: Both deserve 5 stars, 6 if possible. I'm just now starting the third book, Girls in Pants, and I love it so far.

roxygurl744@hotmail.com
Smack by Melvin Burgess was so good and detailed, it makes you believe anything can happen no matter how in control you are. 5 stars.

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. 4 stars.
It is sad and makes you realize how fast things can happen.

The Gossip Girl series. Every book in this series rocks, they're my favorite! 5 stars.

Sweet Blood
by Pete Hautman. 5 stars.
Very good. It's not a book based on vampires' lives, rather it's a girl's theory on them in a story. It's very good!

The Clique series. 5 stars.
All books out are great, and it makes you glad you don't go to their school!

Gingerbread and Shrimp by Rachel Cohn. 5 stars.
Awesome story of a perfect couple and a good --- but not so good --- life of a freak.

Define "Normal" by Julie Anne Peters. 5 stars.
Awesome book about a freak and a "normal" girl forming an unusual friendship.
