This contest period's winner was outlaworblade@yahoo.com, who received a copy of ELDEST: Inheritance, Book II by Christopher Paolini.

swimQt3003@aol.com

nycity4life2004@yahoo.com
I just finished reading This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen. 5 stars

john@aol.com
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a very different book. It really gets you thinking. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

aliensrcoming@verizon.net
A Great and Terrible Beauty was awesome!!

ATANNAHILL94@HOTMAIL.COM
Read Guitar Girl, it's awesome!

tygerlilix@yahoo.com
I just finished The Raging Quiet by Sherryl Jordan. In my opinion, it is one of the best books ever written. It tells the heartbreaking story of a village "madman" and the girl who cared enough to find out that he was not mad --- just deaf --- and how she began to teach him to communicate with people. I learned a lot about ostracism, fear, and kindness from this book. I would definitely recommend it to my friends.

country_angel44@msn.com
Right now, I'm reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. So far, it is a wonderful book that really makes me think about what goes on in other people's lives. I would also like to recommend The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara, by Terry Brooks. They are GREAT GREAT books!!

kat@jeffbristol.com
The other day I read a book called Last Dance on Holladay Street by Elisa Carbone. It was a good piece of historical fiction, if not a little slow and boring at times.

I also recently finished Crooked by Laura and Tom McNeal. It was a good book written by a husband and wife that switched between two points of view.

a.lancaster@inbox.com
I recommend the four books by Laurie Faria Stolarz called Blue is for Nightmares, White is for Magic, Silver is for Secrets, and Red is for Remembrance. I rate the series a top ten, as is the fact that it opens up the possibilities of the religion of Wicca and that nightmares can show what's to come.

I have just finished reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. This book is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an enchanting and captivating book. I have never before read a book that could even compare. It takes place in the 1800s, yet the main character, Gemma, seems like an everyday teenage girl, except for her unique gift. I loved the personalities of Gemma, Felicity, Ann, and Pippa. In a way, it seemed as if one girl had been split into four and each character represented a major part of her. Gemma is determined and accepting, Felicity is bold and powerful, Ann is shy and sad, and Pippa is the romantic. This book is gripping and romantic at the same time, it makes you want to hide under the covers and find your true love. You will not be disappointed if you read it.

shkruger@hotmail.com
You've got to read Sandpiper by Ellen Wittlinger. It is a great book about a teen's struggle with family, boys, sex, self-identity, etc. Wittlinger's best book yet. 5 huge stars.

Bggirl@catlover.com

blond_bombshell02@hotmail.com
Gossip Girl (the whole series). 5 stars.
Definitely a fun read, even though I don't even like reading that much.

The Au Pairs
. 4 1/2 stars.
Also a good read; it's funny, but for more mature people.

Confessions of a Shopaholic
. 5 stars.
Hilarious!! If you like shopping, you'll love this!!

afa_cortez@yahoo.com
I just finished reading Book II of the Bartimaeus Trilogy (The Golem's Eye) by Jonathan Stroud. You should read it too because Bartimaeus is really hilarious, and I mean really. All should read it.

Also, The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke.  I recommend it to everyone.

The Last Time I Saw Mother
by Arlene J. Chai.
This book I recommend for older people (20 and above), but it's really good. It tells the story of a woman who uncovers the truth about herself --- the people she thought to be her parents are really her aunt and uncle, while the people she thought to be her aunt and cousins are really her true family. It's really touching.

Dreamchaser27@worldnet.att.net
I have just recently finished Red is For Remembrance by Laurie Farie Stolarz. It was a great read, and I finished it in about two days. The other books in this series include Blue is for Nightmares, White is For Magic, and Silver is for Secrets, all of which are equally as good. I give these books 5 stars, and recommend them to anybody who loves to read fantasy books.

sj786@hotmail.co.uk
I recommend the Fearless series by Francine Pascal.

Halogurl22@aol.com
How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff is a fantastic, realistic and surprising novel. I loved it and highly recommend it, but it's sort of graphic at one point.

Also, The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray by Chris Wooding is so suspenseful I could hardly put it down.

angel_babe22911@yahoo.com
The Gossip Girls series. An awesome book! You'll get hooked so fast. 5 stars!

Hello, I Lied
. 3 stars. It was a good book, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

Vampire Chronicles.
5 stars. I read them as much as I can. Yes, there are a LOT, but once you read the first book, you'll totally forget about the length and size.

kickinit@4degreez.com
I just got done reading the first and second books of The Party Room series. They were really good. I'm reading 4th of July by James Patterson now, and I'll be starting My Trip to the Pretty Girl Capital of the World.

c_el_13@yahoo.com
I'm currently reading Keeping You a Secret by Julie Anne Peters. It's an incredibly well-written book, about a lesbian relationship that forms between two schoolmates and the events that occur because of that. There should really be more books on this subject, because I know that more books like this would shoot down the misconceptions people have about gay people. It's a really, really sweet book.

snowfire_350@suscom.net
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells. 4 stars.
I have not quite finished reading it yet but it is a great book!

boyes1@peoplepc.com

french_horngirl@hotmail.com

I would recommend anything written by Meg Cabot, and also A Great and Terrible Beauty.

lisat91@hotmail.com

viksta_tricksta123@yahoo.com
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

starry_summer_nights@Hotmail.com
I'm reading Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce, a really great book by a great author. It's actually the 5th book in the Tortall series --- the best series besides Harry Potter!

It's so good that I read it in a day. I just loved it and can't wait for the second one.

sa12ass@hotmail.com
I would recommend practically anything by Sarah Dessen. I believe every one of them is amazing, but if I can narrow it down it would be This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever.

Another book will be Sloppy Firsts and its sequel, Second Helpings. The main character, Jess, is an insomniac/runner/academic/antagonistic critic who makes you feel like she is your friend. Definitely pick this up!

gsandall@sbcglobal.net
I just finished reading Girl, 15, Charming but Insane by Sue Limb. It was a very lighthearted, funny book and a great summer read!!! I enjoyed it thoroughly instead of working on homework --- I couldn't put it down! 4 1/2 stars out of 5.

tangerine0120@yahoo.com
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

princemaddie@yahoo.com
A true classic, Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

fmitch32@bellsouth.net
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
It rocked [my socks on ice], to be blunt. I've read it twice already. One of the HP series highest merits is their reread value. Maybe it's not Huckleberry Finn, but there's always something new. While I found the general bulk of the story less emotional than the others [a real shock after reading Order of the Phoenix], the ending may have been one of the most psychologically trying of the series. Read it.

Dogalog
(DK)
I'm not sure how many people my age read nonfiction [for fun], but this is a great and affordable dog encyclopedia. It's easy to use for quick reference to a breed you want or are interested in. Dogalog also has enough information [despite the small package] to enlighten distinctive breeds.

poolangel1@yahoo.com
I'm currently reading The Sight (Firebird), an excellent fiction book, about a pack of wolves, trying to survive. The female leader (Drappa) is pregnant, while her mate (Dragga) is trying to lead the pack to shelter to survive a snowstorm. It's such an excellent book filled with suspense. So far, I give this book 5 stars!!

warrior_princess1991@hotmail.com
Feeling Sorry for Celia. This book was funny and sarcastic at the same time. The letters Elizabeth writes and receives carry a ring of truth that make you truly relate to her character. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars for its pure composition and plot-line.

warrior_princess1991@hotmail.com
I'm reading the Fearless novels, about a girl who was born without the fear gene. I'd give them 3 1/2 stars.

chaocathy_lovebk@hotmail.com
Skybreaker and Airborn by Kenneth Oppel are pretty good and Lucas by Kevin Brooks is really awesome.

lovepeace4112000@yahoo.com
Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce is a wonderful book for people who love fantasy. 13-year-old Daine has no family left, except for her horse, Cloud, when she meets a horse master for the palace named Onua. Traveling with Onua, she meets Numair Salamar and learns that she carries wild magic. Soon taken under his wing, Daine finds that the immortal of the divine realms have been taken out of their homes to fight a war against the crown. standardbred_91@hotmail.com
I have just started reading The Haunting. It is a very interesting book; it jumps right into what the story is going to be about and doesn't just drag on in the beginning. It seems like it is going to be a really good book. I decided to read it because I saw it on Teenreads.

technogeek5@sbcglobal.net
I'm reading Twenty Pageants Later by Caroline B. Cooney. So far I give it a 3. I just finished her other book, The Girl Who Invented Romance, and I loved it! It came with a fold-out romance board game. It's awesome. I'd give it 5 stars.

I am currently reading Mary Jane, a Spiderman spin-off by Judith O'Brien. It is a truly colorful book with realistic characters. I'm almost convinced that I will cross the street and meet one of them! The descriptions are vivid, and it is not something you have to force yourself to read. Although I'm not one for Spiderman, I'm really enjoying this book. I give it 4.9 stars.

I just finished reading Pamela. It is a simple read and looking at the cover I thought, "This book is definitely not my kind of book." But I was desperate for something to read, so I started to read it and I was hooked! It is a really sweet story about a woman named Pamela who meets this guy and...well, I won't give it away now, will I! But I and all the people I have recommended it to agree it is one of our favorites. But if you aren't into girl chick lit romance books you might not like it! 5 stars.

mysecretagentloverman@gmail.com
I'm reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. This book is so good!  There are also beautiful illustrations to go along with it.

Eldest by Christopher Paolini.
It was very good, I couldn't put the book down --- I just had to finish it.  When Eragon was happy I felt elated, and so on. But now I'm just waiting for book 3 so I can go through it all over again.

standardbred_91@hotmail.com
I am currently reading Somewhere Between Life and Death.

Onyxstarnovafaerie@mugglenet.com

I'm in the process of reading Eldest by Christopher Paolini. It really delves into other storylines other than Eragon's personally without taking the focus of the book off of him and Saphira. Lots of new characters, I give it 5 huge stars so far!

desireeh124@yahoo.com
Just a couple of days ago I finished Eldest, the second book in the Inheritance Trilogy. I couldn't put it down! Also, before I started Eldest I read Blood and Chocolate (very, very good book) and Seven Tears into the Sea. I recommend all three for readers!

tinky3199@earthlink.net
The Bible

midnightsun458@aol.com
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.
It's not bad, a little slow at times and quite saddening (not to mention gruesome), but an important read.

The Color Purple
by Alice Walker.
I haven't finished this one, but am liking it so far. Sometimes it does get a little hard to read because of the dialect, but I like that aspect of the story.

Tuesdays with Morrie
by Mitch Albom.
An absolutely inspirational read --- something I'd definitely go out and buy, so I can read over and over again.

bookfreak2@hotmail.com

Swear to Howdy by Wendelin Van Draanen. 5 stars.
It may seem to be a read for younger children looking at its cover, but after reading it, I loved it. It was light and humorous, but was not without an element of surprise --- some melancholy and sadness (but it turned out fine!!!!)

I recommend The Other Side of Dark by Joan Lowery Nixon. It's awesome!! 5 stars all the way! The girl (I forget her name) wakes up from a coma 3 years after her mom was murdered, and she got shot. She wakes up not knowing where she is, with a different body, and not recognizing her family. But someone's following her. She has to find out who the murderer is to protect herself, and to protect her family, and to help her deal with her mother's murder. This book won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for best YA mystery. Joan Lowery Nixon is the only author to have won it four times. I also recommend any murder mystery by her!

likeiluvjt127@aol.com
My recommendations are The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. Why? Well, throughout this book you learn about four completely opposite teenage friends who have formed a bond since they were born. I absolutely loved these books.

A Great and Terrible Beauty
by Libba Bray. 3 stars.
It's an enchanting book filled with magic. The ending is abrupt and leaves you with a sense of disappointment but also leaves you hungry for more. Easy to read and set in an interesting time period.

Enchantress from the Stars
by Sylvia Engdahl. 5 stars.
Though from the cover it sounds good, I was afraid to read it. It turned out that despite the shift of perspectives, this book leaves you thirsty for more. Not only does it open up questions of the setting of the book but it parallels theology, the human mind, and questions of morality. In addition, there is romance enough to satisfy diehard romance fans, but not enough to disgust non-romance fans.

I just finished Eldest by Christopher Paolini. Outstanding book. You will not understand very much if you have not read Eragon. 5 stars.

Teen Idol by Meg Cabot. 5 stars.
I love this book. It is one of the best books that I have ever read, and I think everyone who likes her books should read it, along with every other book she's written.

I just finished reading Two Suns in the Sky. It was very slow to begin with. At first, nothing much happens; then, during the middle, the plot gets really intense and then it ends in a very stupid way. I would recommend this book, but I only rate it 3 stars.

The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory.
I've read almost all of her books and this one lives up to the rest --- historical fiction with a mix of romance and adventure. It's definitely a must read for historical fiction lovers. I also recommend The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. It's definitely her best.

Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty was a great novel!! I absolutely loved it this month. What a great book on finding that "someone" who you want to have your first time with. Fabulous insight on teen life in school, love and home.

The funniest book ever is Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie by David Lubar. I laughed more than fifty times reading it, and give it 6 out of 5 stars!!! It's just about a kid who is going into freshmen year, his mom is having a baby, the girl he's known forever turned gorgeous, and he finds himself joining tons of crazy clubs!

I finished Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment, and it was really good. 4 1/2 stars.

If you want to read a good book read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. It's a really good book about these greasers who end up killing someone when they were jumped by a bunch of "Socs." If you've been waiting for a good read try this book.

Some awesome books that I would recommend are The House of the Scorpion and My Side of the Mountain. And Shadow Divers looks really good. But the best books I have read are...available at the library!!!!

Right now I am reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini. My friend told me that it was really good and that's what made me pick it up. So far, I have to agree with her. It is so intriguing and I can't put it down. I would tell people if they love fantasy then they should definitely check this book out!

I just would really like to recommend the book Say Goodnight, Gracie. It is brilliantly written, touching the most sensitive aspects of friendship and the pain of losing it. I have read this book twice and cried more the second time around. I guess I just thought about if it would have been one of my friends who I was losing.

I definitely recommend the book, Speak. I have read the book twice and saw the movie. The movie was OK but I much prefer the book.

I just reread What Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci. I give it 5 stars. I got one of my old teachers to read it and she said that it's a book that everyone should read. It's so powerful and at times a little confusing, but it's such a well-written book. She also wrote The Body of Christopher Creed, which was another really good book. Although I think she has an obsession with guitar players and people disappearing.

Go Ask Ogre by Jolene Siana. It's kind of like Go Ask Alice but more modern, with full-color illustrations and the actual letters she wrote --- and a happy ending. Highly recommended for mature young adults.
