A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY and REBEL ANGELS by Libba Bray
Rating: 5 Stars
I love both these books. They're so great and I'm a hard critic. I read a ton, so when I say that these books ROCK, I mean it! Of all the books I've ever read, these two for sure make the top ten! I got so into them that I failed a math test because of them! I've read them both twice and I'm definitely ready to read them again. I can't wait for the third book in the trilogy to come out! If I could, have I would have given these 10 stars! If you like fantasy and suspense and are looking for a "curl up under the covers to read with a flashlight" kind of book, than these are for you!!!

Rating: 5 Stars
I this book. I feel that she wrote from her heart and that makes me even more interested in the book. Sometimes when you read, you don't know that you're crying until you're done reading. She never has a dull book. Parts make you cry and parts make you smile, but in the end, you'll love the book. If you read more, you'll understand that she is from the heart.

Kiea
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
Rating: 5 Stars
This is so funny. And if you think about it (which is kind of hard), it can relate to high school. We have the nuts, the role modles, the sloppy kids, smart kids, and those who look great (Becky Thatcher). This is a nice book from deep within the imagination.

Liz

Most of the experiences in this book came from Peter Benchley's own life. SHARK LIFE was full of interesting facts and opinions. It changes your view of ocean life.

Justine*
A Child Called 'It' by David Peltzer
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is a true story and it touches your soul so deep that it won't ever remove itself from your head. It's sad, but if you read the next one, it tells of a happier time when he grows up, tries to fix things with his mother, and grows stonger from what happened.

Josh
Splintering by Eireann Corrigan
Rating: 1 Stars
It was really cappy and boring and it kept switching between people. It got really confusing and all it was about was sex and pot and breakups, and it swore at least three times a page. I think it was a little racistist too.

Josh
The Body of Christopher Creed by Carol Plum-Ucci
Rating: 4 Stars
It was exciting, sometimes.

Ash
Gifts by Ursula K. Le Guin
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was a great read. The story follows a boy living among people who have different powers. He has to deal with coming into his powers and the problems that come with it. I loved the ending. It's a touch predictable, but satisfactory nonetheless.

Helen
The Prophet of Yonwood by Jeanne DuPrau
Rating: 4 Stars
This is the prequel to THE CITY OF EMBER and THE PEOPLE OF SPARKS. A Very good book!

Abby
Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson
Rating: 5 Stars
I love this book. It's great. I like how the author, Laurie Halse Anderson, wrote the story. The main character, Ashley, wants nothing to do with the end-of-the-year prom. So, she decides to help after the prom is cancelled because her math teacher stole the prom money. She decides that she actually would like a prom, but the principal won't allow her because she has too many detentions, and it's against the rule. She finds a way to sneak in, and discovers that it's not that bad!

Ash
The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak
Rating: 4 Stars
I don't normally like books set during wars, but this is so different from the others. Not only is the story written from Death's point of view, but it's about a character who, even though not effected by the war in ways that we normally think of, (Holocaust victim, soldier) she is effected all the same. It's a compelling story with characters that are real.

Sara
Sabriel by Garth Nix
Rating: 5 Stars
This is a great book. I got the trilogy for my birthday from an aunt who gives me books pretty much every year. They are usually suckish and boring, but I love to read, and I had no other books with me during an 8-hour drive from Portland to Spokane. I read SABRIEL expecting to have my pants bored off, but it was the best book I have read all year (and that is saying something because I read a lot)!!

Joey
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Rating: 5 Stars
I had to read this book for school so I really didn't think that it was going to be that great, but I was mistaken. This book was really good and it taught me a lot about speaking up for myself and what I would end up doing to myself if I didn't, and if I tried to keep my secrects and hurt all to myself.

Joey
Drowning Anna by Sue Mayfield
Rating: 5 Stars
A great but sad book that tells the truth about bullying. Every teen should read this so that you can see firsthand how badly "words" can hurt.

hiyeeeitzlieny
Luna by Julie Anne Peters
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is the greatest! It actually opens up your eyes and shows you how crappy life is for people who are different just because of their sexuality. This is a book that makes you realize how the golden rule is important, "Treat others the way you want others to treat you."

Helen
Girl, (Nearly) 16, Absoute Torture by Sue Limb
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was very good, light and funny, but I didn't find it as interesting as GIRL, 15, CHARMING BUT INSANE. Plenty of British humour!

Toni
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
If you read the first book, TWILIGHT, you will absolutly love this one! I couldn't put it down. I even got into trouble at school because I wouldn't stop reading!!!

Glenda
Once Upon A Marigold by Jean Ferris
Rating: 5 Stars
I really, really enjoyed this book. It somewhat reminds me of ELLA ENCHANTED (my all-time favorite book). its funny, romantic and such a cute story! It's not your average fairytale. I truly recommend it!!

Dee
What if...Everyone Knew Your Name by Liz Ruckdeschel and Sara James
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is awesome! It has an amazing concept. The title says, "A Choose Your Destiny Novel." At first, I didn't know, but as I finished the first chapter, I found out. The book has a main character, Haley Miller, and at the end of the first chapter, you decide which direction she should go. It gives you choices and the page number of the choice to go to. It's lets the reader get involved. It also teaches that for every action, there is a consequence. This is a book you'd want to read over and over again.

Steph
Notes From The Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick
Rating: 5 Stars
A hilariously fun read. I love the main character and the relationship developed between him and Solomon Lewis --- it kept the pages turning. It made me laugh and made me cry. I couldn't put it down!

Steph
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
Rating: 5 Stars
Written from the point of view of an unbelievably (maybe too...) innocent 9-year old-son of a Nazi Commandant during World War II, this book's ending will impact you like a train wreck. You see it coming, but can't stop it. Good read.

Savanah
Peeps by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 5 Stars
This is an unusual book, because it gives you a different view of vampires and makes you think about what is actually happening. For instance, the vampirism being contagious when you have sex with someone makes this book a real page turner. Most people do not think of that when they think of vampires. Westerfeld wrote very uniquely. I give him alone about 5 stars.

Christina
How to Be Popular by Meg Cabot
Rating: 5 Stars
I couldn't put this book down. I think it is one of Cabot's best yet.

Anna
Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik
Rating: 4 Stars
This is the second book in the author's Temeraire series. They are very refreshing with a new role for dragons in history.

Joey
Small Steps by Louis Sachar
Rating: 5 Stars
A great companion to one of my favorite books, HOLES. It's about Armpit and X-ray and the trouble they are still getting into.

Joey
Breaking Point by Alex Flinn
Rating: 5 Stars
A great book for teens about how far we will go to be popular and if it is really worth it.

Joey
Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn
Rating: 5 Stars
I really liked reading this book. It's a little scary to realize these things could really happen, and I think that a lot of teens could learn a lot from it.

rayray3001
Three Act Tragedy: A Hercule Poirot Novel by Agatha Christie
Rating: 5 Stars
If you like mysteries, this is the book for you. Agatha Christie is an awesome author.

Meghan
Maximum Security by Robert Muchamore
Rating: 4 Stars
The third book of the CHERUB series is yet another exciting, well-written book. MAXIMUM SECURITY has it all --- stunning twists, suspenseful action, and believable characters. The hero of the book, James Adams, is an agent for the British spy agency, CHERUB, which employs children from ages eleven through seventeen, puts them through a rigorous 100-day training course, and drops them right in the middle of international security. Although I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first or second, it's still an amazing book everyone who likes spy novels should read.

Libby
The Shaktra by Christopher Pike
Rating: 5 Stars
I loved the book so much, and now I cannot wait for Book Three to come out. I am dying to read it. I thought the first two were good, so I hope the third one is as good.

C. J.
Avatars, Book I: So This Is How It Ends by Tui T. Sutherland
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is a great fantasy read. What starts out as an "end of the world" story turns into much more...myths and legends, with a lot of adventure and mystery. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Kaylen
The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 4 Stars
I didn't like this as much as it's companion, PEEPS. The characters from that first book make a appearance, but they aren't a very big part of the story. This takes after PEEPS, and by the end, it basically explains how the epedemic went. I just didn't like the characters that much, but it was still a great book. If you like Scott Westerfeld, you'll love it.

Graycat13
Fall of a Kingdom by Hilari Bell
Rating: 4 Stars
When the mighty Hrum army turns their sights on the country of Farsala, the ruling deghans are convinced they will be able to withstand the invasion. See events unfold through the eyes of three very different young people named Jiaan, Kavi, and Soraya. Will the deghans triumph or will the Hrum be successful? For those looking for a fantasy, you might be disappointed, but adventure lovers are sure to be pleased.

Hannah Flaherty
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
I am, yet again, rereading NEW MOON. This book never gets old for me. I love the characters and how real they seem. I find myself thinking thoughts of how well I would get along with the main character before remembering, "Oh yeah, it's just a book."

It sucks you in! It's a wonderful read!

Graycat13
Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind by Suzanne Fisher Staples
Rating: 4 Stars
Shabanu is the daughter of Pakistani desert nomads. As her family prepares for her sister's wedding, Shabanu will experience joy, hardship, famine, heartbreak, and so much more. When her own marriage arrangement is broken for the good of the family, she must choose to follow her heart or obey her duty to her father. This great mulitcultural read really gives an in-depth look at what her culture is like. We see the world through the eyes of a girl who longs to break free of tradition.

Kaylen
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
Love it!! I'm just about obsessed with these books, and I can't wait for the next one, which should come out in a year. It made me cry in the middle, but remember, if you want to put down the book, it has a happyish ending. If you read TWILIGHT or like love stories, read NEW MOON (or if you haven't read TWILIGHT yet, read it).

Kaylen
Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer
Rating: 5 Stars
I loved it, like all the others. I didn't even know that there was a 5th one coming out, and I'm hoping it's not the last. Read this book if you've read the others, and here's something that won't give very much away: Artemis meets a GIRL!

Helen
Regarding the Bathrooms by Kate Klise
Rating: 4 Stars
This is one of those books that you feel like you must be too old for, but you just can't resist. It is written in letters, memos, transcripts, and newspaper clippings, and there are silly puns on every page! A delightful book that you will want to read in one big delicious gulp!

Casey
A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY and REBEL ANGELS by Libba Bray
Rating: 5 Stars
These two books are AWESOME! I would recommend them to anyone, and I practically have my entire class hooked on them! They're fantastic, and I can't wait for the last book in the Trilogy to come out!

Casey
TWILIGHT and NEW MOON by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
These books are AWESOME! I would recommend them to anyone. I practically have my entire class hooked! They're fantastic, and I can't wait for the next ones in the series come out!

Justin
Moment of Impact by Caleb Wygal
Rating: 5 Stars
This excellent novel by a first-time author is a good coming-of-age story with a bittersweet ending.

Kelsea
Abarat by Clive Barker
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was extremely good! I got it at the airport before I went on my flight to New York with my family, and read it the whole three and 1/2 hours. I haven't read the second one yet, but I hope to soon!

Stephanie
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 4 Stars
Not as good as the first book, but still really good.

Stephanie
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
This book has everything: romance, action, suspense, and humor.

Lauren S.
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
Rating: 5 Stars
MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA is a completely and utterly amazing novel about a young Japanese girl who is taken from her home and forced into the life of a geisha in the years before the second World War. This compelling story reveals the truth behind the geisha lies that Westerners believe; MEMOIRS is touching as well as informative in the prospect that it shows that geisha are in fact, NOT prostitues.

Any Japanese culture enthusiast will be drawn to this book, as I was. Many people can relate to the feelings and thoughts of Chiyo, the novel's heroine, though few people have been placed in the situation that Chiyo was.

Although MEMOIRS may be deemed inappropriate for children under a certain age, it is a must read for teens and adults everywhere.

MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA gracefully and truthfully portrays a young girl's sometimes sorrowful coming-of-age and composes a vivid portrait of pre-World War II Japan for young and old alike to enjoy.

Tayler
Chronicles Of Narnia by C. S Lewis
Rating: 5 Stars
I love these books, all of them! I have the entire series, I love them!

Helen
Weedflower by Cynthia Kadohata
Rating: 3 Stars
This book was about a Japanese American girl during World War II. She was forced to move off her flower farm and into a camp for Japanese Americans. It was really sad how they encountered so much prejudice after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. If you like historical fiction, you would probably like this book.

Stephanie
Victoria and the Rogue by Meg Cabot
Rating: 4 Stars
Great! Romance and comedy!

Tayler
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor
Rating: 5 Stars
This book shows the hardship that these people went through in the times after the Civil War. I really love this book!

Rating: 4 Stars
If you'd like to learn about the Titanic, you will love this book. At times, it can be confusing, but it is very good.

Holly
Homefree by Nina Wright
Rating: 5 Stars
This novel was quite similar to X-men in fantastic ways. The lives of the characters were so well-developed that it makes you ponder on your own causes for complaints. Very heart-felt, indeed.

Its so funny, and I never want to put it down --- i've gotten a few bad grades for it :)

Rating: 5 Stars
This book was really good! It's about a girl (Macy) who has just recently lost her father. Macy tries to be perfect for her mom and for her very smart boyfriend Jason, but she soon learns from the Wish Catering group how to live a little. She meets a guy named Wes who shows her a whole new perspective on life!!! I really like the story and just how great it was!!!! Check it out!

Angela
Dreamland by Sarah Dessen
Rating: 5 Stars
it is very good! I got into it from the minute I opened it!

Christine
Sweet 16 by Kate Brian
Rating: 4 Stars
This girl is spoiled to death! Her mother died when she was really young, so instead of her dad giving her hugs, he gave her presents. She spends an unbelivable amount of money on her birthday (completely paid for by her father), which promises to be the "best night of her life," except she dies... She gets something like a ghost of christmas past, only it's the future her that gives her a serious wake-up call. This is an amazing story!

Meg
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was great, and different from your average chic read. It showed a deeper meaning to the title, with a loveable character. JUST LISTEN is a book I'd recommend for all girls, from 12 and up.

Christine
The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
Rating: 5 Stars
I have to read these books for school, so I thoought this one was going to be boring. But it was the exact opposite!! It's set in the 1600s. Kit is from the Carribbean and she has to move to America when her grandfather dies. She comes to her aunt's house unexpectedly to them, and they don't really accept her. After a while, she just falls apart because of it and runs away and ends up in a meadow. She talks to an old women who is suspected of witchcraft. She comes to visit the woman, Hannah, a lot and she sees the guy named Nat over there too. She's supposed to marry William, but she's only doing that to get away from the house. The ending?? I'm so not telling! Read it you will not regret it!

Meg
Amazing Grace by Megan Shull
Rating: 4 Stars
This was a great book, and was better than I'd expected. I'd recommend it to someone who wants a funny and easy read.

Ann
Demon Thief by Darren Shan
Rating: 4 Stars
It started off a little bit pathetically and way too predictably, but by the end, it got much better.

Justin
Moment of Impact by Caleb Wygal
Rating: 5 Stars
A great, fast book with believable characters and a good mystery.

Jocelyn
Diva by Alex Flinn
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was fantastic! From the cover, I thought it would be sort of boring, unoriginal, and not that great, but it was a perfect example of why not to judge a book by its cover. Caitlin is an awesome main character, and it's an amazing story.

Books
Sunshine by Robin Mckinley
Rating: 5 Stars
A vampire tale told like no other. Robin Mckinley is a genius when it comes to writing an intriguing story. She adds all the right elements --- adventure, fantasy, magic, romance, likeable heroines and drama to keep you wanting more. I recommend any thing that she writes.

Denise
A Bad Boy Can Be Good For a Girl by Tanya Lee Stone
Rating: 5 Stars
This book, written in verse form, is absolutely a winner! Short and telling. Any girl who has ever been used and dumped by a high school boy will relate to this story immediately. In heartbreaking detail, three different girls describe being charmed, used, and then dumped by a high school senior. You'll LOVE IT. I am recommending this book to every girl in the high school.

Whitney R.
Freeze Tag by Caroline B. Cooney
Rating: 5 Stars
The best teen suspense book I have read in a while! Caroline is my favorite author. She can really write! If, as a young child, you played Freeze Tag, you should really read this book. This is not in a series, so read it right away!

Christy
Scrapped Princess by Ichiro Sakaki
Rating: 3 Stars
This fairy tale story is action packed and full of danger, magic and mayhem. The relationship between the siblings and the humor and optimism they show makes the book a fun and fast read.

It's Kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizini
Rating: 4 Stars
I loved this book. The main character's voice was so real. He embodies a lot of today's teenagers, over-stressed but not crazy. It was great, I'd recommend it to anyone!

Marty Boggs & The Curse of Kutkara's Tomb by M. T. Acquaire
Rating: 5 Stars
I really loved this book and would give it 10 stars if I could. The story follows Marty and his friends as they struggle to discover the secret to a deadly curse unleashed by Marty's grandfather, an archeologist who is one of the first victims of the curse. Soon, Marty is on the run as his friends start disappearing with rumors of a beast lurking in town. He soon discovers that his grandfather's nurse is far from normal and definitely evil! Not only does Marty have to battle the undead and creatures that should never exist, but he gets these really cool psychic powers, and just by touching an object, is transported into the past!

By the time I finished this book, I was completely spooked and totally hooked. The ending definitely deepens the mystery for book two. I highly recommend MARTY BOGGS AND THE CURSE OF KUTKARA'S TOMB, definitely one of the top reads for this year.

I loved this book. It's about a young taxi driver in Australia who has a pennyless life. One day, stops a bank robbery, and afterwards gets a mysterious letter in the mail that changes his life forever.

Rating: 3 Stars
This book is the story of a family living in England and it is really quite sweet, but not very deep reading.

Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn by Sarah Miller
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is about a girl who can "listen in" to Gideon's mind. The story is his and hers --- she runs a commentary on his thoughts, but you don't know who she is. This adds to the story, because she falls in love with Gideon, and you don't find out who the girl is until the end.

Keeper of the Waters by Jenna Solitaire
Rating: 5 Stars
Jenna Solitaire is a great author!! She wrote four books: THE KEEPER OF THE WINDS, KEEPER OF THE WATERS, KEEPER OF THE FLAMES, and KEEPER OF THE EARTH. Her publisher may not let her continue the series because THE KEEPER OF THE FLAMEStoo well. I think it would be a shame to lose such a good series:( These books are magical, cunning, and have a wee bit of romance...but not a lot!! Go and get these books from the library or the store!! You will not be disappointed!! I am getting all four for my birthday and am going to read them over and over:)

Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno
Rating: 5 Stars
HAIRSTYLES OF THE DAMNED is written so freshly, describing how modern teens think and act. Lets just say I hope to read more of this type of punk style books.

Brian Oswald, the main character and narrator, is trying to find his identity pretty much to the end of the book. He does crazy things to fit in with his friends and to keep himself happy. But, he, himself, doesn't even understand what he's up to at times.

The book brings out how racism really bites, how Punk music and Hard Rock are great and how some kids being punks, stoners, goths, etc. most likely dress and act the way they do so they can fit in with a group of friends or try to be themselves somehow.

The book has lots of punk and hard rock bands from back then, as well as other bands and artists from all the mix tapes and lists of Brian's fantasy in being in a band one day.

Joe Meno really knows how to write a book about identiy and what teens do to change their appearance because they think it's right for the type of music they are listening to. Punk Rock is all about the attitude, the music, and taking action --- it really has nothing to do with fashion, but it won't stop someone from doing that if it makes them happy.

HAIRSTYLES OF THE DAMNED is very refreshing for those who really want to read a different side of teen life that's so obvious in their own lives.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite books, written by a highly accomplished author. Stephenie Meyer spins a thrilling tale of love, mystery, adventure, and a ficticious character so real that you can feel his power pulsing through your veins.

Skin by Adrienne Maria Vrettos
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was so well written, it had you feeling like you were right there, with the characters. You felt like you knew them --- cried when they did, laughed when they laughed. It was such an easy book to read, but a hard one to put down and even to close when you finish. Vrettos had you wanting to keep reading throughout the characters' lives. I'll never forget this book, or the tears I shed when it was over.

The Unseen by Zilpha keatley Snyder
Rating: 1 Stars
Golly gosh. How do I describe this book? Awful? It was very slow. Very. The plot was stupid, unclear, and not well developed. If I didin't have to read this for Battle of the Books, I'd have stopped reading it. My worst nightmare would be to reread that book. (or ...AND NO MIGUEL and MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN). And, to all of you who enjoyed this book --- Congradulations and good for you!

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
Rating: 5 Stars
This is one of the best fantasy books I've read. It's the first in a series of three, and it's sequels are THE SUBTLE KNIFE and THE AMBER SPYGLASS. A girl knows dark secrets, and with the help of friends along the way, she unravels many more. A tale of romance and adventure. A++

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
OMG! This book has already been recommended about 10 times, but it is so amazing that I have to recommend it again. I love fantasy books, but I also love romance, so this is the best combination of a little bit of fantasy and the deep romance of two characters.

Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
Rating: 4 Stars
This is a prequel to the Peter Pan story. It's a great fantasy book that I could not put down. It had a bittersweet ending, which I usually hate, but this one was pretty good. I cant remember if Wendy left Peter in PETER PAN, though. One day I'll watch the movie again.

Oh my goodness, I love Sarah Dessen. She has a wonderful writing style. All of her books are really good.

A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
Rating: 4 Stars
A NORTHERN LIGHT was really good. It was slow at parts, but it had a unique plot. The synopsis led you to believe the book was mainly about a murder, but it really had a very small part in the book. It was mostly about a girl and the struggles she goes through living in 1904 (or around then) in a small town, where her options are limited. A must read.

The Young Wizards Series by Diane Duane
Rating: 5 Stars
These books are really really good. Currently, there are 8, but the ninth is coming out soon. They can be a little confusing if you don't pay attention, so no skimming!! The first one is a little tough to get through, at times. I'd give it a 3.5. But after that, they start getting really good. Well, except the 3rd, which is only a 4, but the rest are 5s!! The one about the main character's mother made me cry. I think it was the 5th book. As you can see, I don't remember much, but I'm in the process of rereading. 1st one down!!!

They are about two teens who have become wizards, and they deal with different difficulties and problems. They're so good!!
