Full Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is truly amazing, not just because of the message it brings across, but because it shows that feminism is not a stereotype. It is not a fad or a cliché. It shows young women what empowerment means and how to take control of their lives and not conform to what others expect them to be (virgins until they get married at the age of 21, and pop a child out every year). Women, especially younger women of my generation, need to know what they want in life and stand up for it. This book is a fast, easy and fun read. Jessica Valenti is an amazing writer and an even better person, not just because she's a feminist, but also because she's teaching the world to be proud of it.

Impulse by Ellen Hopkins
Rating: 5 Stars
One of the darkest novels I have read, it's about 3 teens who bond at a live-in clinic, since all of them tried to commit suicide. Ms. Hopkins's style is very unique in that the book is written in verse, but it is also so detailed and life-like that it can be almost scary at times. Romance, friendships, and trusts are made, and relationship with families are tried to be repaired. The ending was truly amazing and unexpected, and it blew me away. Read this if you are an Ellen Hopkins fan, or a lover of teen drama novels. You won't be disappointed.

Rating: 4 Stars
This has to be one of the silliest/craziest books I have ever read. To tell you the truth, I was a bit turned off by the whole Daisy/Edmond relationship thing since they were cousins. However, throughout the book, I've realized that Daisy really loves him and the whole family thing went to the back of my head. This book is a pretty good starter for an author who just began writing. Her style of writing is different from other books I've read, but yet I've come to enjoy it. This book has a lot of war and action, and I suggest it for people who love war stories.

Rating: 4 Stars
This story should be read by every teenage girl. It is told through Edwina's eyes, a young 14 year-old girl with a mother too Catholic to explain things properly and a friend too 'mature' for her age. When Anne-Marie is raped in the small country town, everyone, naturally, has the details. Anne-Marie is Edwina's best friend's sister. The story progresses as Edwina becomes too close with her father's older friend Tom. Edwina, not comprehending, is used and raped by Tom, who coaxes her into it with the promises that he 'loves her'. The story sends a message about sexual predators, but at the core, is a heartbreaking tale of a young girl's devastating secret.

This is a purely amazing book. It is set in Nepal and moves into India, following the horrific life of Lakshmi, a village girl in Nepal who is sold into prostitution by her stepfather. Through her eyes you follow an amazing journey of chance, luck, life, pain, torture, friendship and loyalty as she tries to find a way home, tries to never give up hope and proves that hope is still alive. It is an amazing emotional read that will have you in tears as you wish for Lakshmi's freedom and life and happiness. Although the subject is heartbreaking, we still see the small bursts of humor from a young girl and grow attached to the characters who sadly drift away. It's a book you'll never forget.

Forever in Blue by Ann Brashares
Rating: 3 Stars
The final book in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, FOREVER IN BLUE tells the story of the four girls' first year at separate colleges. Each tries to cope with things like family, friends, school, and many more things as they all grow up in their own ways. Though truly heartwarming at times, FOREVER IN BLUE is not my favorite of the series, though it worked hard to finalize everything and produced a good enough conclusion.

Enter the Enchanted by K. A. Applegate
Rating: 3 Stars
The third in the Everworld series, ENTER THE ENCHANTED continues the ever-growing hectic story of a few teenagers stuck in an alternate universe. When they fall asleep in this universe that defies all laws of everything they have grown up to know (eg. gravity and the existence of fairytale creatures like Merlin, Loki, elves, and Sir Galahad), they find themselves back in their real universe. A good book, but maybe not for all. Try it out!

A lot like She's the Man, a recent movie. TWELFTH NIGHT is about a girl pretending to be a guy, and the complications that it creates. Things are only beginning to get mixed up, however, when the girl's twin brother shows up, and now there's two of them. An interesting play; be sure to read it!

Both TWILIGHT and NEW MOON are amazing books. I couldn't put them down. I'd be reading them in class and til' 3:00 in the morning. They just pulled me into this magical story that somehow I can relate to, excluding the mythical creatures. I am now on the hunt for ECLIPSE and waiting for the next two in the series to arrive. NEW MOON is fIlled with suspense and causes you to feel the emotions that Bella is going through.

I hope they make a movie out of this and that Stephenie Meyer writes more books to this series.

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 4 Stars
I have been hooked on the Twilight series from day one. Stephenie is a phenomenal writer. ECLIPSE, in my opinion, isn't as good as TWILIGHT, but is better than NEW MOON. I find myself getting bored and irritated with Jacob's juvenile behavior, but that's probably just me! ECLIPSE is definitely worth reading over and over again.

This is the kind of book that isn't for everyone. Some people will get a lot out of it and will gain a new outlook on life from reading it, and others won't see it as that. Nevertheless, Paul Fleishman has done an amazing job and I would definitely recommend everyone to give WHIRLIGIG a shot.
NOTE: Parts of this book have scenes that take place in the future, so do your best to keep up with it. It is probably best if you go back and read it again.

The Unseen Series by Richie Tankersley Cusick
Rating: 4 Stars
When I was reading these books, which are a series of four, I was mesmerized by the storylines and the way they draws you in completely. If there's any book that had the most unexpected events, it has to be this one. Though it can throw you completely off track, it does so in a very satisfying manner, and you will not be disappointed. The last book doesn't answer all questions and can even be very confusing, but other than that, this is a pretty exciting series!

Although this book is on the shorter side, you will fall in love with every page and want more. The main character, Melinda, was raped at a party, so she called the cops. No one knew she was assaulted, so the entire student body is mad at her for calling the police. Although you will become frustrated at times with some of Melinda's choices, you will bond with this character and always want the best for her. The book is easily read and really lets you enter the mind of Melinda through its witty narration. If you want to read a good story about an amazing healing process, this is the book for you.
P.S. --- SPEAK has been made into a movie, so when your done with the book, make sure to watch it!

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
Rating: 5 Stars
The love that was portrayed in this book was not only of the romantic kind, but of the kind that involves family and how it affects everyone in your surroundings. The main character takes the reader on a journey of pain due to her losses, but in the end, one of true happiness. She learns about her true self and gains a lot more than what she has bargained for. I love this book, and I sure can't wait to read Sarah Dessen's other creations.

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Rating: 4 Stars
I read about 55 books a year, so they have to be really great to get a good recommendation from me. This book makes you think twice about your opinions on school violence and who is really responsible for such events. This book is told from the points of view of the teen, the teacher, the parent, the lawyer and the judge. This book had a shocking surprise ending that I didn't expect. All of Jodi Picoult's novels are very good, but sometimes aren't appropriate for readers younger than 15.

I absolutely loved this book (the fourth and final [???] installment of the Jessica Darling series)! Jessica Darling only gets better with time: the book was an exciting journey through a one-week period when Jessica finally decides whether or not she will marry Marcus...and join their lives forever in a very interesting mix of lifestyles. This book hi-larious and has a 'freshly-out-of-college' feeling that resonates with the character's actual living situation. It had an unexpected ending, so if you like books that break the rules, this is one to read.

Double or Die by Charlie Higson
Rating: 4 Stars
this book was the 3rd in the Young Bond series, and is set in the 30s before James Bond became a adult hero, speculating on his early years. The beginning is a bit slow to introduce the reader to all complex ideas, breaking them up on cryptic crosswords and clues. The main story is about a teacher at James's school who goes missing. Also, a letter arrives and evidently doesn't make sense. He, being a natural superhero, runs to the aid and tries solving the clues in the letter with his clue-solving mates.
It's packed with some suspense and a lot of action, making it made a great summer holiday read!!

This book is rather slow paced, but it's an amazing story that will keep you going! It's set in times where everyone is obsessed with witchcraft, or, should I say obsessed with being afraid of it. Follow the path of the lead character, a teenage girl who falls in love with a mute woodcarver. She is told he doesn't talk because he doesn't need to --- a carver carves, he doesn't speak. The girl falls in love with Carver, which is what he is eventually dubbed, and he will only speak to the girl at first. But then the girl finds out about a dreadful secret that explains Carver's difference. Can the girl give up her love, or will she die trying to protect it?

A most compelling novel about a young Jew out of the concentration camps, who --- back at his homeland --- fights for freedom from the British. Filled with the most challenging philosophical ideas that make the reader ponder over every phrase, this is a must read for everyone who wants intrigue. Elle has the norm --- embarrassing historian parents who named her after an ancient fairytale legend, an annoying but loving best friend, and a cute kitty cat who loves her. But, things are quickly changing for Elle. When her dad gets a new job, he moves the family elsewhere, and Elle gets taken on the ride of her life.
Pros:
- A rockin' pool
- A track around the local park so she can run her heart out
- Her own room
- And a chance to create Elle 2.0
- An available spot on the school's track team.
Cons:
- She falls for the school hottie good guy who happens to be taken.
- Her history teacher keeps saying that she the reincarnation of someone she's not, (not that it even makes sense)
- Oh yeah, and the school's haunted by an ancient evil that is and will be relentlessly for revenge.
Elle has to decide what exactly she believes in and what to do before Avalon High turns into bloodbath central.

I know. I am the only person who doesn't like this series. Everyone who has read them has fallen in love with the characters and the plot, but I think it's mediocre at best. Bella is stupid beyond belief, and the rest of the characters have little depth --- yes, this means Edward too. I don't find their 'love' story the least bit compelling and, to be rather honest, I don't see how everyone else does. The writing isn't amazing and the series in general is very overrated. I plan to read the rest of the books just in case I become part of the millions of people who can't get enough of them. Until then, I'm very unimpressed and let down from all the hype.

I can relate to Raven's character because I have a great interest in vampires, too. It is a story of goth-girl Raven who falls in love with a vampire named Alexander. This book by Ellen Schreiber is one of my favorites.

Inexcusable by Chris Lynch
Rating: 1 Stars
I absolutely despised this book. I read it because I'd heard it was supposed to be really good. It's about a boy named "Killer" Keir, who raped a girl named Gigi. Some parts of the novel take place before he graduates, and some after. It was really confusing, and I suppose you were intended to feel Keir's confusion. I found many aspects of this book to be really sick, and it was so disturbing that it was difficult to read. The ending was very unsatisfying, but I suppose one could say that it was meant to fit with the rest of the book! I would never recommend this inexcusable (haha) excuse of a novel to anybody. Do not read this under any circumstances (except if it's a class assignment)!

Once you get into this series, there's no getting out. They are amazing, suspenseful, dramatic and romantic. At first I thought they looked dumb, but you can't judge a book by its cover.

Really good book! I was surprised to figure out that the author lives in my same town.

Black-Eyed Suzie by Susan Shaw
Rating: 5 Stars
BLACK-EYED SUZIE is a gripping tale of a young girl, Suzie, who is psychologically incarcerated in a little "box." She cannot eat, talk, or smile --- she just sits. Eventually, her uncle brings her to a mental hospital where her gradual recovery takes place. Susan Shaw's first novel is a poignant exploration of physical abuse and the ramifications of it. This book was heart wrenching and Suzie's voice resonates long after one has finished it.

Rebel Angels by Libba Bray
Rating: 5 Stars
This is the sequel to A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY, but I think it was --- quite unusually --- much better than the first book! It drew me in almost from the very beginning (even though it's a very long book), and I never wanted to put it down. The inner strengths of the main character, Gemma, makes me really admire her --- she's one of my favorite fictional characters!

This was the best book out of the series. Now I can't wait to see what happens next in EXTRAS, which is coming out in October.

Sequel to TWILIGHT, this book continues the Vampire Saga. A new type of character is added to the ever-growing pile of twists and turns in this book, and it makes it that much more exciting. Journey along with Bella, the protagonist, as she tries to cope without her beloved vampires. A great read!

What other rating can this book be given but the highest of them all? An intricately developed story of a human girl living in the midst of a vampire family whom she loves, TWILIGHT will capture readers from the very beginning. I have read this book so many times, and yet I have never grown sick of it at all. I recommend this novel to everyone looking for an exciting read.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
Rating: 5 Stars
This book, the last in the highly acclaimed Harry Potter series, most definitely deserves a 5-star rating. I could hardly put the book down! I loved every single thing about it, except the loss of a few favourite characters of mine. But nevertheless, this has to be the best book in the series! I won't spoil anything for those who haven't had the opportunity to read it yet, but I have to say, you will NOT be disappointed. Action, adventure, horror, comedy, romance, mystery, fantasy, and more are all piled into this novel with amazing twists and turns to keep you awake all night. This is a most amazing read!

This book was a great end to the series! It answered a lot of questions, but there were still a few I had on my mind. The plot and story were amazing and the adventure the three main characters went on will never be forgotten.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Rating: 4 Stars
I liked this book a lot. It had a great plot. I did not give it 5 stars because I thought it was similar to SPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson, which is one of my favorite books. Otherwise, this book was great. Sarah Dessen is an amazing author and I've read every one of her books and liked them all. My favorite is probably THIS LULLABY or THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER.
