EAS
Escape From Memory by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Rating: 5 Stars
This book had a lot of suspense in it. I really liked that Kira kept changing her mind about who was the good guy who was the bad guy. I think that this book could be improved by making the little world on a different planet or in a different world instead of just in California.

Christine
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Rating: 5 Stars
SPEAK is the best book I have ever read. It shocked me, surprised me,and I didn't put it down not even once. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Shante
Unforgettable by Cecily von Ziegesar
Rating: 5 Stars
This is so good. It has drama, love, and eveything you need to have in a book. I even have my friends reading it. I love Gossip Girl, but The It Girl is even better! I love how Cecily made a spin-off for the character, Jenny Humphrey, to see how her life in boarding school is doing. I think that's so awesome. I like all the characters in the book.

Katie S.
Scrambled Eggs at Midnight by Brad Barkley and Heather Helper
Rating: 5 Stars
Deep, realistic, and quirky characters paired with incredible writing and a hooking plot develop one of my most favorite romantic novels.

Sarah the Bookworm
Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was honestly the most amazing and thought-provoking book I've ever read. Even though it is for a younger reader, it struck a chord in my heart. The plot is that a boy turns invisible and then befriends a blind girl. When he turns visible again, their relationship is jeopardized. I would enthusiastically recommend this book to absolutely anyone.

Karen G.
First Shot by Walter Sorrells
Rating: 5 Stars
This one knocked my socks off! All of Sorrells' teen novels are outstanding.

Tracy

Meg

This is a wonderful, beautiful book.

Ciera
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
Rating: 5 Stars
The first 2 chapters in this book are boring, but then it starts to heat up and you won't be able to put it down. I am 2/3rds of the way done and it is an amazing story of a girl named Lyra and how she ventures off the Norht to.........you'll have to read the book ;)

Julie
Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is about how a boy named Jamal needs to make some important decisions, such as gang or no gang, gun or no gun. This book is awesome. Anyone who loves drama and action should definitely read this.

Enas
The Terrorist by Caroline B. Cooney
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was very nice, but small parts of it I did not enjoy. I did not enjoy the vivid description of Billy wrapping himself around a bomb and then it exploding, sending him flying (in pieces of course), or when they started talking anti-Muslim. Other than that, I loved the plot of this story and I could make many connections to it using metacognition.

Lacey
Private: Inner Circle by Kate Brian
Rating: 5 Stars
I love this series. This one it the newest.

Jessica P.
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is about an odd girl named Stargirl, who goes to Mica Area High School. The narrator is a boy named Leo, the director for the school's show called "Hot Seat." His best friend Kevin wants to put Stargirl on "Hot Seat" but Leo doesn't want to. But then, Stargirl becomes the most popular girl in school. She is a cheerleader and she is very wierd. She plays the ukelele, has a pet rat, goes to funerals for people she doesn't know, cheers for the other team when they score a touchdown, sings "Happy Birthday" to people she doesn't know, and makes up really weird cheers. You will have to read the book to see what happens with Stargirl. I recommend this book to girls who love books about weird people who become very popular, but still keep their weirdness. The age range I would say, is 6-13.

Marissa
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
Rating: 5 Stars
STARGIRL is one of the best books I have ever read. It is full of laughter and excitement. I love the part when they are at school for the first day and they think she is from outer space, but they realize she is a wonderful person to be around and becomes popular. Read STARGIRL!

Alyssa
Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
Rating: 4 Stars
BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE was a book about a girl named Opal who finds a dog and names it Winn-Dixie. The story takes place in the Winn-Dixie store, a trailer park, and a field. Opal tries to convince her father to let her keep Winn-Dixie. This is a book everyone will love!

Elaina
The Steps by Rachel Cohn
Rating: 5 Stars
I gave this book a 5 because it was very interesting. It is about this girl, Annabel, who lives in New York City and goes to visit her father and the steps [which are her step sisters and step brother]. Shes not happy about traveling around the world to see them. When she gets there, she doesn't feel like her other half of the family [dad's new side] likes her and doesn't consider her part of their new family and treat her as just a guest. She also misses her home in N.Y.C. She wants to go home early for New Years. But her father might not let her. He wants her to spend the hoilday with them. Annabel is really confused about what to do.

Meagan
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
I am absolutely loving this book! I can't put it down and I am definitely in love with Edward Cullen. Anyone who has read the book probably understands. Meyer has the perfect balance of mystery, adventure and romance. I can't wait to finish the book and the rest of the series.

Donna
The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
Rating: 4 Stars
It has a fast-moving plot that holds your attention, but it has a lot of cursing and sex talk that is not really relevant to the core story.

Kristina Chang
Bras & Broomsticks by Sarah Mlynowski
Rating: 5 Stars
BRAS & BROOMSTICKS was a fun, adventure-filled book about a teen who has to deal with her little sister having witch powers. This makes the teen girl wonder if she can use her sister to make her life change to the way she wants it to be...

There friends help them thruogh there adventure in search of a an explantion to many questions. This is a great book and I hope you read it.

Kierra
Sandcastles by Luanne Rice
Rating: 4 Stars
My mom read this book and she said it's about family relationships and issues. I was curious about it and decided to read it myself. The book is relaxing but I thought the first half was repetitive. Then it got interesting towards the second half of the novel as events escalated. For the first half, you kept reading over and over this one particular important incident that everyone talked/thought about. Hence, the repetition was dull.

Catherine
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Poucult
Rating: 5 Stars
It was one of the best books I've ever read.

Jackie
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
I wasn't able to put it down! I would have read the entire thing at one time, except that I had school. My friends were laughing as I read it walking down the hallway! It's about 18-year-old Bella who's boyfriend, of course, is a vampire. He's not the normal dies-when-he-goes-into-sunlight or turns-into-a-bat-at-will kind of vampire. But, he's still dangerous. Then there's the whole choice between either her boyfriend or her best friend, who happens to be in love with her. And of course, she also has an army of blood-sucking vampires out to kill her.... Anyway, this book is awesome and I can't wait for the fourth in the series.

In And Down by Brett Alexander Savory
Rating: 5 Stars
IN AND DOWN is an eerie and intensely deep tale of a strange brotherhood, both searching for the same person --- their mother. Both boys long to know why she left, or if she even existed in the first place. The twists and turns are absolutely brilliant! People who would appreciate this novel the most are deep thinkers, it's not a simple story line.

The Skin I'm In by Sharon G. Flake
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is about a girl named Maleeka Madison. She goes to McClenton Middle School. A new teacher, Ms. Saunders, has a big "stain" on her face. Everybody makes fun of her for that. They also make fun of Maleeka because they claim she's "too black." Actually, a kid named John-John made up a song about her, "Maleeka, Maleeka, we sure want to keep her, but she's so black, we just can't see her." Maleeka learns a lesson from Ms. Saunders, she learns that it's ok if everyone makes fun of you; all that matters is that you care about the skin you are in. This book has a lot of drama and one chapter is pretty gross. But, you'll love this great story by Sharon Flake.

Becky

Jinx by Meg Cabot

A super-fast read that is a departure from Meg Cabot's usual style. It is reminisent of the movie The Craft, except the main character is never questionable. If you like "witchy" books, you will like this.

Emma
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Rating: 5 Stars
This is like the best book ever. Guys and girls will love it. It is the first book in a series, followed by THE SEA OF MONSTERS and THE TITAN'S CURSE, both of which are extremely good. But, this is one of the series where you have to read the books in order or else the story won't make any sense at all to you.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
Rating: 5 Stars
I have read this book MANY times, but it never fails to amaze me. I read an interview from Libba once where she said that when the idea for A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY popped into her head she told herself she was crazy for wanting to write it, because what did she know about the Victorian era in a London finishing school? But she must know more than she realizes, because A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY is a beauty of a read.

Jessica
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
Rating: 5 Stars
Oh my. This is my fifth re-read since that's fateful July day. It's one of the best books ever. Though, I must say, it's better if you've read the whole series. Now, for those of you who are against reading Harry Potter, just give it a chance. I was against it --- two years ago I made fun of it and thought it to be a stupid kids' book. How wrong I was. One fateful day, I had nothing to read, so a friend lent me THE SORCERER'S STONE. Let's just say, later that day I went to her house to pick up the next book, and then in less then two weeks I had all six books read. If you're someone who doesn't want to read it because you don't think fantasy is your thing or think the whole wizarding thing is lame, just give it a shot because you'll realize that there's much more to this series then just what meets the eye. The messages and plot run deeper then you could ever imagine.

This is the best book series ever!!! If you love animals, especially horses, this is a must read. It starts with a young girl named Ashleigh Griffen. Her family used to own a horse farm, but they sold it and moved to Townsend Acres, an exclusive racehorse training stable. They also breed and sell horses and Ashleigh's parents have come there to be breeding managers. Ashleigh's own horse was also sold when they left, and Ash finds a horse named Townsend Holly who looks just like her own horse. Holly has a foal and nobody thinks it will live. Ashleigh takes care of it and nurses her back to health. They name her Ashleigh's Wonder. The owner's son, Brad, aggravates everyone to no end. Then young Samantha McLean comes to the farm. Her mother was killed in a freak riding accident and her dad won't let her ride. Ashleigh befriends her and Sammy becomes the groom for a horse that Ashleigh bought. Read all about Sammy and Ashleigh.

Extras by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 4 Stars
Pretty good. It's very exciting and has many unexpected turns and twists. I didn't really understand if this was part of the UGLIES/PRETTIES/SPECIALS trilogy or not. It's really preachy about the environment and taking care of the earth. (As if I didn't hear about it enough at school!) Otherwise, it's a very good book.

This is because they think this is the cat who will destroy the most dangerous animal in the mountains, Sharptooth. Enjoy! This book was very action packed, and there are exciting parts in every scene. I recommend this to readers who like fantasy stories.

Gossip Girl: I Like It Like That by Cecily von Ziegesar
Rating: 5 Stars
I LIKE IT LIKE THAT is an intriguing novel based on new surroundings and the struggles that Blair Waldorf endures in order to overcome everything that stands in her way. Von Ziegesar shines a light upon many of the struggles that teenage girls are exposed to, such as step-parents, guys, and college. As you begin this series, Blair comes off as that girl that has all the friends, yet seems to be as mean as it gets. Ergo, you might suppose that she is perfect, having the great life that everyone wants. Once you are looking in on her life, Blair slowly becomes a part of you, and you can finally understand her situation. I recommend this book to anyone who needs an escape from their own hectic life to peek into someone else's.

This book kept me wanting to read more. Isabelle Lee has a serious problem --- an eating disorder. Her mom makes her go to group therapy. Why? I mean she already has an annoying sister. Isabelle sees the most popular girl in her school, Ashley, and all of a sudden Ashley is Isabelle's best friend. This boosts her popularity up way more. Isabelle faces problems at home, at school and at therapy. She just wants to be perfect. A lot of girls read this last year more than once. It was a really good book.

This is part of the Clique series. I don't think it was as good as the other Clique books, but it still kept me reading. This book is about how Massie and the Pretty Committee try to get the room that Sky, the most popular girl in the whole school, had promised to them. But all of a sudden, the whole Pretty committee is having trouble with boys, which never happens. They have to find dates to Sky's party within a week or say bye-bye to the room.

On the Avenue by Antonio Pagliarulo
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was unlike anything I have ever seen before. The plot line was definitely original, but there was a twist like a lemon mixed with sugar and water. The mystery mixed with multiple scenes loaded with suspense held my attention like a fish on a hook. There was nothing my mom could say to persuade me to put the book down during dinner. It was permanently glued to my hand until I finished the book. Even after I finished the book, I had a sudden impulse to find the title of the sequel. It is definitely a book readers will not want to put down, no matter what.

Angel's In Pink: Holly's Story by Lurlene McDaniel
Rating: 5 Stars
This was one of the best books that I have read in a long time. This book is about 3 best friends. Holly, Katleen and Reina. Each friend has her own story. Kathleen is first, Reina second, and Holly is the last book. In the story, Holly has a brother named Hunter that Reina goes out with. Kathleen goes out with Carson that she met at the mall. When something happens to Hunter, it changes everyone's life forever. I would recommend this book only for teenagers. Some material in here would not be suitable for younger readers.

Okay, so I JUST got through reading this book and it's totallly awesome in every sense of the word. It's the third book in the Twilight series and it rocks! It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. My only hope is that Jacob Black wins Bella over in the end. He deserves her and if she was smart, she'd know that he's better than her over controlling boyfriend.

Rating: 4 Stars
ANOTHER KIND OF COWBOY is a book that will melt your heart. It is not as typical or dramatic like most books about self-discovery, but it is one that is heartfelt, true and at the same time, informative. The two main characters, who are Alex and Cleo, ride dressage and through the same instructors/coaches, they meet. They start as acquaintances but when they finally grow and learn about themselves, they see that no matter what, they are true friends.

The Second Summer of the Sisterhood of the Traveli by Ann Brashares
Rating: 5 Stars
I think this book was great because of the characters and how they acted when they found out that their mom was getting married to their math teacher. The mom had 6 children. Their ages are 14,16,15,17, 13,and 12 so their mom is really old. They told their math teacher that their mom was ill with cancer and the teacher believed them and ran to the hospital. When he got there he found out that know one knew her. He came back to the school and gave the children detention.

The One O'Clock Chop by Ralph Fletcher
Rating: 4 Stars
THE ONE O'CLOCK CHOP is a short story about the summer of 1973, when a 14-year-old Matt spends his summer working on a clamming boat to earn enough money to buy a Boston Whaler (a boat). However, this same summer, his cousin from Hawaii comes to New York to visit him and his mom. Jazzy turns out to be a totally different person than what Matt envisioned: pretty, smart, funny, and self-confident. Matt and Jazzy begin to enjoy each other's company and begin to have a nice time during the summer. Matt falls in love with Jazzy, and just when he is about to act on his feelings, Jazzy starts to go out with Tommy O' Rourke, a popular kid in Matt's grade... THE ONE O'CLOCK CHOP, although short, was an interesting book that kept me reading continuously 'til the end. It is a charming and heartwarming memoir about a close family's interesting summer.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Rating: 5 Stars
I liked this book a lot. It had good suspense, like the part when Dr. Victor Frankenstein was making the monster, I wanted to know what the monster would do first, if it would start to talk right when he came to life, if he would go berserk and hurt everyone, or if he would do what his creator would tell him to and come out like Frankenstein wanted. It also had many tragedies --- the monster killed three people that Frankenstein loved: his brother, his best friend Henry, and his wife Elizabeth. FRANKENSTEIN is my favorite book!

I Like It Like That by Cecily von Ziegesar
Rating: 5 Stars
I loved this book because it was all about the pressure put on girls related to college, boys, and friends --- getting them, keeping them, and losing them. Von Ziegesar also brings up the topic of adapting to new things, such as a new stepdad, the surprises he brings with him, breaking up with a boyfriend, or not being the one in charge. Blair Waldorf had to go through these tough things, and in the end, GossipGirl was the one who wins. I recommend this book for anyone who needs an escape from their own hectic life, and wants to peek in on someone else's.

My Mother the Cheerleader by Robert Sharenow
Rating: 3 Stars
This was an excellent book about public school integration in the South. It's easy to look back and say, "Oh, those people were so racist and horrible!" This book, however, showed how easy it was to just go along with everyone else, not really thinking about things like "equality." Why should you? The heroine is likable and believable, and I was sad when the book was over.

Patty Ho is always being made fun of for being a hapa --- half Asian, half white. Her mother takes her to a fortune-teller who says that Patty is going to marry a white man, and Patty is sent off to SUMaC, a math camp for the mathematically gifted. Patty meets the boy of her dreams, Stu, but when she is caught kissing him by her mother --- who has forbidden her to date anyone who isn't Taiwanese --- her summer fling comes crashing down. How predicable. Patty didn't even want to go to math camp in the first place, and when she has her first bit of fun, of course her mother has to ruin everything. Patty figures out a compromise that will keep her at math camp and with Stu, but when Patty catches him hung-over, she says good bye to him once and for all. Great book! Wonderful for anyone who wants a nice, juicy teen novel. With just enough romance to keep you reading, this book is fantastic chick-lit.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
Rating: 5 Stars
I cried. The two sisters make the hardest decisions one could ever make while the adults --- who some believe to have more "sense" --- wander around unknowing, not having to make these choices. It gives you insight into what the life of a family such as this, with one terminally ill child and the other a donor, with a brother who's the odd one out, and parents who are losing one daughter while trying to save the other. My sympathy was gained by the brother, who through no fault of his own, is discarded as useless and unable to help his sister, leaving him feeling unworthy and causing him to strike out.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
Reading the back cover of this book, it didn't strike me as something I would be interested in, but I read it on the advice of a friend. I finished it in eleven hours, going back to read it 4 more times in the three following weeks. I also found time to read its seque,l NEW MOON, and waited anxiously for ECLIPSE, which I've now read. I found Edward and Bella's story amazing, captivating and different from anything else I had read. Stephanie Meyer's style of writing had you begging for more. The characters from the book stayed with me, even after I read the last page. Their's is a love story and so much more. I enjoyed it immensely and eagerly await the fourth installment. If you don't read it, you're missing out!!

This was just an amazing book. At first, I didn't think I was going to like it, but once you read what it's about, you're gonna want to read it. I fell in love with the characters right from the beginning. MEMOIRS OF A TEENAGE AMNESIAC is such a well-written book that you won't be able to put down.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Rating: 4 Stars
ERAGON was the kind of book that I never read, with the exception of Harry Potter --- thick with fantasy, Lord Of The Rings epics, and a following maintained mostly by geeks and freaks. After constant nagging from a close friend, I finally gave in, and immediately regretted all that I'd thought about it before. ERAGON is the story of a teenager by the same name, who spends most of his time hunting in the mountains surrounding his family farm. One fateful day, however, a shining blue stone comes to him. Eragon is immediately pulled into a world of treason, adventure, and murder as he becomes one of the legendary dragon riders. This book, as long as it is, moves quickly and flawlessly through richly detailed landscapes and people. Paolini's writing is smart and intriguing, made even more amazing by the fact that he wrote it when he was only 15! I gave ERAGON five stars for one reason: it rocks.

Annie, Between the States by L. M. Elliot
Rating: 4 Stars
ANNE, BETWEEN THE STATES is a gripping civil war story of a young girl caught between the Union and the Confederacy. Her brothers and father go to war, leaving Annie with her mother, younger brother and slaves. Her brother fights under J.E.B. Stuart, to whom she forms a fantasy. Then she finds out that Stuart is married and gets angry for being so naive. Soon, a young Union soldier, Thomas Walker, captures her interest with lines of poetry. At first, Annie thinks he is rude and storms away. Later, she becomes more interested in him. She is unsure whether to stay "loyal" to the Confederacy or go with this young Union soldier. In this wonderful novel, L. M. Elliot takes you all the back to the 1800s with this hard-to-put-down book.

Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy
Rating: 5 Stars
This fast-paced military terrorist book, written by the expert Tom Clancy, puts a secret division of the military against a ploy of terrorists, and are eventually forced to, of course, save the planet. While the plot was fairly average: the bad guy is stopped just in time, the world is saved. This was masterfully written; a must read for anyone into the military, action, or who just likes books.

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen
Rating: 3 Stars
This was a good book packed with exciting, unpredictable events. it showed how much some people care about our environment and little owls that were going to get buried to death by a bulldozer. The ending was a little bit predictable in the sense that I knew the owls were going to end up safe, but the events in between were totally unpredictable, like alligators in the port-a-potties and cotton mouths with blue tails.

Once again, Matt Forbeck delivers a great story in the Blood Bowl series. This one picks up from where the last one left off and is different than the last one. It gets into the exciting and sometimes cliffhanger-y action right away. I would recommend this book to all guys, and maybe girls who like more violent books. This is one of the best series I have read, and I am looking forward to the next 2 that are out.

Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick
Rating: 5 Stars
I thought that this book was amazing. It had a great plot, with even better morals. At some points in the book, I was laughing at a funny thing Jeffrey said, and at other points, I thought I might cry over his condition. I know this story was created for a girl whose brother had leukemia. I can see where it would have been a good, powerful message for the girl. I also think that Jeffrey was a great character, and he was my favorite. He was always really strong and happy, and always being nice to his family and brother. He helped his brother through it, even though Jeffrey was the one who was sick. This book really touched me, and I hope it will touch anyone else who reads this book.

Rating: 5 Stars
ELDEST, the sequel to ERAGON, is one of the best books I've ever read! It is about a boy who must train to become a dragon rider. This book is second to none(except the Harry Potter series) and if you haven't read it, you should immediately. But be sure to read ERAGON first.

Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was a heart-stopping story about a boy who’s brother, Jeffrey, gets leukemia. This story has a great plot. Sometimes it is really, funny, and at others, it is quite sad. My favorite character is Jeffrey; he is always cheerful and always strong. He helps his brother through his sickness, even though Jeffrey is the one with cancer. Two other strong characters were Annette and Rene. When Steven is in a time of need, they both come through for him, cutting their hair extra short, and throwing a charity concert for him. I think it is great that Steven had those influences in his life to help him. I think anyone who reads this book will go away with a strong message.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
Rating: 4 Stars

The It Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar
Rating: 4 Stars
THE IT GIRL was amazing. I would recommend it to any teenage girl. Jenny Humphrey is attending her new boarding school for sophomore year, Waverly Academy. She rooms with 3 of the most popular juniors and takes Tinsley's --- the most popular girl in school, who got expelled last year --- spot in the room. Jenny's new life as a sophomore is packed with action and teenage gossip. This book was so great that I'm planning on reading the next 3 in the series. If you haven't read this book I highly recommend it, and if you do read it you won't be sorry you did.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling

In this fourth installment of J. K. Rowling's stunning Harry Potter series, Ms. Rowling weaves an incredible tale of Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts. To start the year, Harry has a run in with Voldemort's followers, The Death Eaters, at the Quidditch World Cup. Then when he arrives at school, he finds a competition known as the Tri-Wizard Cup is taking place at Hogwarts. How will this story end? I leave the reading to you, dear, well... reader. Good night and good luck finishing this book in a day!

Forever by Judy Blume
Rating: 4 Stars
FOREVER was a good book because you just couldn't put it down. There were some weird parts, but you were always thinking, "Oh my gosh! What's gonna happen next?!" It kept you reading. The best part about this book was the ending, which left me hanging so much that I felt like marching up to Judy Blume herself and saying, "Please write a sequel right now so I know what happens next!" Overall, this book was great!

Andrew
Summerland by Michael Chabon
Rating: 3 Stars
I picked up this book because of the prospect of baseball in it. Little did I know that baseball played a very minor role. Micheal Chabon does a good job of getting you into the book at the beginning, but then I find he drags the book out with unnecessary dialogue and narrative. This book had potential but didn't come through.

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is so adorable. I love reading from the perspective of a not-so-popular high school student who finds out she is princess. Now, she has to handle high school and her own country. This book has inspired me to keep journals myself because I loved reading Mia's.

Tommy
Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was very good but the only problem was that too much of it was sad. This book was a memoir about Walter Dean Myers's childhood. I like the beginning a lot because he is an extremely mischievous boy who gets into loads of trouble doing crazy things, along with becoming a writer (mainly poetry). But, his life changes because he --- being black --- isn't allowed to hang out with his best friend, who is white. Then, he realizes his parents can't afford to send him to college. His parents are depressed and he's comes close to failing almost all of his classes at school, so he stops attending. Can he solve his problems before he becomes another "one of the bodies" working for minimum wage their whole lives? This was a wonderful and inspiring book about one man's struggle in life.

Matthew Ainbinder
Son of the Mob by Gordon Korman
Rating: 3 Stars
It was a good book, but it was a little slow at the beginning. I also don't like how they jumped into the action so fast and then took a while to explain everything.

Carrie
Annie Between the States by E.M. Elliot
Rating: 4 Stars
ANNIE BETWEEN THE STATES was a great book about a girl's life during the Civil War. She falls in love with Lt.Farley and then is heartbroken by his death. Then, Thomas comes along. He is a Yankee soldier, and Annie when Annie falls in love with him, she must decide if she can be loyal to the South any longer! But then, she is caught hiding a soldier in her house, and is thrown in jail. Once she gets her hearing, Thomas supports her and she is set free. Once she gets home, her father and brother are still in the war. Lawrence, her eldest brother, returns home with a limb missing, and her stubborn younger brother, Jamie will not accept her love with Thomas. Annie's story is one of strength and nobility. She stands her ground the entire story, and will not be put down. It was very easy to put myself in Annie shoes, seeing that she is only a few years older than I. Even though this is a 500+ book about history and was a summer reading assignment, I would read it again in a flash.

Rating: 5 Stars
In PROPHECY, the second book in a trilogy, the three heroes try to destroy the evil menace that stalks the land, murdering and killing: The F'dor. In this book, Rhapsody, Achmed, and Gunthor look for F'dor's hideous servants, called the Rakshas. The Rakshas raid villages, kill defenseless villagers, and assassinate nobles. This book was extremely exciting and had a lot of action. I was so hooked on the plot that I had to continue to read it to the end without a break.

Rating: 3 Stars
It had intrigue, war, and a lot of historical facts. It also had an underlying skeleton of romance.

Savannah
Annie Between the States by L. M. Elliot
Rating: 2 Stars
ANIE BETWEEN THE STATES is, overall, not a good book. It seemed like there were too many problems and no climax. I found the book rather annoying as the diary entries blended together, and most of the characters were extremely frustrating. The somewhat entertaining parts were the "love" scenes, although they were not enough to make up for the rest of the book. This is my opinion, yours may be different. I would suggest reading this book only if you have an unusual passion for historical fiction that can get you through the monotony.

Pirates! by Celia Rees
Rating: 4 Stars
When Nancy Kington's father dies, she is shipped off to the family’s plantation in Jamaica, where she becomes best friends with a slave girl, Minerva. This book is about their experiences after running from the cruelness of the slaves' overseer and Nancy's brother. They sign onto a pirate ship and, soon enough, they are traveling around the world. I like this book because it contains adventure and, amazingly, romance on most of its pages.

Annie Between the States by L. M. Elliot

This book is pretty good. It is a little long, but I liked it overall. It is about the Sinclair family during the Civil War. They are a Confederate family living in Virginia, at Hickory Heights. Annie Sinclair's brother Lawrence goes to fight and comes back with one arm. I was glad he did not die and only lost an arm. My favorite character was Eliza because I thought it was funny how she tried to flirt with Union soldiers even though she was a Confederate. Read this if you want a historical novel and don't mind length.

This is an amazing book!!! I loved how Gabrielle Zevin described everything that was going on in Naomi's life. She hits her head while falling down some stairs and can't remember everything. She gets really confused about who her friends are and who she loves. In the end, she gets her memory back and finds out that her friend, Will, has been trying to help her all along though she has not been accepting the help. The Secret Garden by Francess Hodgson Burnett
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is a great classic for teens and pre-teens. It is about a girl, Mary, whose parents die from Cholera; so, she has to move from being a spoiled brat who always got her way in India, to being ignored --- well almost --- and having to learn to amuse herself, in England. When she goes to England, she lives with her Uncle, Mr.Craven. He is grouchy, mean and unforgiving. While she is there, she stumbles across his deceased wife's garden, and his ten-year-old sickly son. She learns to amuse herself in the garden and with new friends met along the way, but can't it last forever. Dr. Craven wanted no one to go in the garden or talk about it. Will he find out, or will she go along happily? Read to find out in the best classic book I have ever read. Anyone will love this book; at least I know I did. I hope you all read it, happy reading!!!

Full Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is truly amazing, not just because of the message it brings across, but because it shows that feminism is not a stereotype. It is not a fad or a cliché. It shows young women what empowerment means and how to take control of their lives and not conform to what others expect them to be (virgins until they get married at the age of 21, and pop a child out every year). Women, especially younger women of my generation, need to know what they want in life and stand up for it. This book is a fast, easy and fun read. Jessica Valenti is an amazing writer and an even better person, not just because she's a feminist, but also because she's teaching the world to be proud of it.

I picked up this book because of the movie of the same title. So far, I love the descriptions of the characters, but I feel that the movie will turn out to be better than the book, which is very rare.

So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is an amazing read. Westerfeld does a great job describing the character, Hunter, and his friend, Jenny. It almost is like a mystery/supsense novel, but really isn't. It starts out very descriptive, and once I got into it I couldn't stop reading! :)

Rating: 5 Stars
Vampire + Romance+ Rich Kids= BLUE BLOODS! It's such a great combination. If you love horror tales mixed with rich kids and some adventure, romance and mystery, you'll enjoy the novel. The vampires aren't your typical vamps either, but that's all I am going to say! Don't want to ruin it for you.

This book was REALLY good! It's about these kids who are 98% human and 2% bird. They are on the run from these creatures called Erasers that are men who can transform into wolves, (like a werewolf). They are programmed to deliver these children back to the horrible laboratory called The School, where the white coats will perform dreadful experiments on them!

This was the final book in the GINGERBREAD trilogy, and what a fitting end. Cyd's in NYC, living with her stepbrother Danny, and life is going good...except for Shrimp! To see if the couple gets back together, you're going to have to read this. The writing was great, the story kept me reading, and Cyd's personality is as bright as ever in this final chapter of her story.

The book depicts prejudice and discrimination along with the political opportunism some will use to advocate a personal agenda. The book is believable and compelling to read.

Impulse by Ellen Hopkins
Rating: 5 Stars
One of the darkest novels I have read, it's about 3 teens who bond at a live-in clinic, since all of them tried to commit suicide. Ms. Hopkins's style is very unique in that the book is written in verse, but it is also so detailed and life-like that it can be almost scary at times. Romance, friendships, and trusts are made, and relationship with families are tried to be repaired. The ending was truly amazing and unexpected, and it blew me away. Read this if you are an Ellen Hopkins fan, or a lover of teen drama novels. You won't be disappointed.

Shannan
Private: Inner Circle by Kate Brian
Rating: 5 Stars
Even though this was the first Private book I've read, I love it and I was able to jump right into the series. It's a book about how college life can be and how sororities can go too far with being "the elite". Pick it up if you love books about friends, romance, and backstabbing "sisters"!

INKHEART and INKSPELL by Cornelia Funke
Rating: 5 Stars
This is a great fantasy series, and the next one doesn't come out until around September of 2008. It has a good story line, but, of course, it's a cliffhanger til next year. It's full of fantasy and real life-related problems, and it keeps you going until the very end.

How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff
Rating: 4 Stars
This has to be one of the silliest/craziest books I have ever read. To tell you the truth, I was a bit turned off by the whole Daisy/Edmond relationship thing since they were cousins. However, throughout the book, I've realized that Daisy really loves him and the whole family thing went to the back of my head. This book is a pretty good starter for an author who just began writing. Her style of writing is different from other books I've read, but yet I've come to enjoy it. This book has a lot of war and action, and I suggest it for people who love war stories.
