This was a great book. I read it in one sitting and was entranced by the whole book. It had all the right elements of a fantastic writing and made my heart race when it was time made me cry for the character and that is a true marking of a good story.

When they first introduced these books (The Hunger Games series) in our book club, to be honest with you, I was not that interested, but when I started reading, I fell in love with them. I am almost done with CATCHING FIRE and can't wait for the 3rd book to come out. So everybody read this series! I think there might be a movie too!

Although I had to describe one book with another, I think it is appropriate in this case. I found this steam punk fic to be a cross between TWILIGHT and THE LUXE. Alexia Tarrabotti reminds me of spunky Diana Holland, however she has Bella Swan's love for vampires and werewolves. I definitely recommend it to fans of either series!

I love this book! When I started to read it, I just couldn't stop! I love how I can kind of relate to it. It's about a Mormon girl who is starting to get interested in boys, but her fauther doesn't want to get involed with them because he thinks that he should choose how she marries. Well, she ignores him and starts to hang around a guy who she thinks is the one for her. Well one day, her dad finds her with him and starts to yell at her and the boy. Then, the next day at school he tells her that he doesn't want to be around her because she is crazy like her father. When her mom gets pregnant, her father takes her to go to live with her aunt for the summer. While she is there, she meets a wonderful guy named Ethan. They fall in love, but as the summer ends, they both know that she has to go home. The last night that they are together they find out something that changes everything for them. To find out what it is and what happened with their love, you have to read the book. Trust me --- you will love it!

This book was hilarious. It was about a girl whose mother got depression so it probably wasn't meant to be so funny, but it was. The funny parts mostly had to do with the girl and her friends but, I also think it was just how the author writes. I definitely recommend this book.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was assigned in my AP Language class. It is not the type of book that I would pick up off the shelf for pleasure reading, but I really enjoyed it. The non-fiction novel is Capote's account of a murder of a family in a small town. The novel uses montage to tell the story of the family, detectives and the killers. I was hooked after the first chapter, and chills ran down my spine until the last word. The story is so intriguing that it is hard to believe that it really happened. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys gripping stories; this is not a light, summer read.

I really liked this book but there are some things that I wish were different. There is definitely action but it takes a long time for the secrets to actually come out, like toward the end of the book. There's no after-the-action writing. But all in all, I loved the characters and loved the story line. Hopefully there is a second installment.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Rating: 5 Stars
I really like this book for a few reasons: I like that it is told from the boy's point of view rather than the girl's, like always. I like the genealogy in the book, dating back hundreds of years. I like the things that you learn about people in general. And last but not least, I really like that this is a fantasy book about something that I haven't already read about. It's a very different concept from anything that I've ever read.

Gettin' Hooked by Nyomi Scott
Rating: 2 Stars
I would really like to write an in-depth explanation for all the reasons why I did not like this book, but merely thinking about it makes my head spin. So I'll make it as concise as possible. First of all, as I'm sure the majority of all other readers have already expressed, the explicit use of slang made the book very difficult to follow, understand, like, etc. Very few, if any, talk in the same manner as the characters of GETTIN' HOOKED.
Another major fault was how the entirety of the novel was shallow and unrealistic. Imani goes through all the work of creating a web site in order to connect with a guy she knew nearly nothing about. Her crush on Maurice was based solely on his looks. Characters were extremely underdeveloped; especially Maurice. He just folds into whatever Imani needs. While this is idealistic, it makes the reader, or at least me, dislike his lack of personality.
There was, however, an attempt made at further developing Imani's character by introducing multiple crises: a deserting mother, a constantly absent father, a secluded grandmother and a wayward cousin. Nevertheless, I consider this effort a failure because of the way each topic seemed to be segmented, especially towards the end of the novel. Imani and Maurice arrive in Arizona to find things are not as grave as previously thought, closing the case on Kayla and reopening Imani's familial issues.
Also, pointedly stating that this series is intended to empower African Americans is virtually the same as posting a neon sign that reads, "Non-blacks stay away!" But, I'm sure this is already a known fact. There were many other matters that diminished my opinion of this novel, but this review is already too long. As for something that I did like...

How They Met and Other Stories by David Levithan
Rating: 5 Stars
David Levithan is one of my favorite authors. He knows how to capture the attention of an audience well. In HOW THEY MET AND OTHER STORIES, every chapter has a story of how two or more people met, just as the title implies. In the synopsis, the author states that the stories were originally written as a Valentine's Day gift for his friends, which is believable because all of the stories are love stories. Also, I could relate to a lot of the stories based on my friends and their relationships. Overall, this was an awesome book and I cannot wait to read another book by David Levithan.

Dragon Bones by Patricia Briggs
Rating: 5 Stars
While I already was aware of Patty Briggs' prowess in hardcore fantasy, I was still a little hesitant to read this two book series of hers, of which DRAGON BONES was the first. Don't get me wrong --- I haven't read a single one of her books that I didn't like. I just couldn't see her pulling off a male point-of-view well because she's so fantastic at strong female characters. It's almost a sin for her to be good at male characters too. My fears were wholly unfounded and the book was marvelous. The main character, Ward of Hurog, has spent his life pretending to be brain-damaged so his father would not murder him to keep the powerful family title of Hurogmeten. In the course of the book, Ward's father dies and he must prove his worthiness to rule the land of Hurog. For those of you who haven't read it, I insist you try it now if you're at all a fantasy fan. For those of you who have read it, well, Hurog means dragon.

Beautiful Americans by Lucy Silag
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was the paperback version of crack. I bought it on a night when I should have been studying for a test, and ended up reading 150 pages in instead of studying. Suffice to say, the grade wasn't amazing, but finishing the book the next day was worth it. It isn't amazingly original, but for those who think Gossip Girl and The Clique novels are dumbed down, this is the real deal, with a much broader vocabulary. Oh, and it takes place in Paris and uses French, which both adds to the overall mood to the book (speaking from the point of view of a student taking French), as well as establishes a firm realism some other "teen drama" books seem to leave behind. Granted, the characters are a tad two-dimensional. The author does a good job of explaining all of their stories, though she needs to try to fix the problem of them sounding the same. It also ends on a cliffhanger, which is annoying when the next book isn't available in hardcover or paperback as of yet. Overall, it rises above the average cut-and-dry novel of the teen variety and is definitely worth a good look.

It's about a hobbit named Frodo who is given a ring. The ring has the ability to turn the person wearing it invisible. The wizard Gandalf, a very good friend of Frodo's, comes to him and tells him about how the ring came to be, and how it got to him. The ring had a great power within it, but it was a very evil power. After hearing what the wizard had to say, Frodo and his friend Sam go on a quest to destroy the ring and the power within it. It's easy to get into the plot of the book, and the volumes that follow it are just as great.
