The Espressologist by Kristina Springer |
Rating: 4 Stars |
This was a very original and exciting idea for a story that has been told many times. The classic boy likes girl, boys liking goes over girls head, girl wants other boy, girl realizes what just happened; now with the Espressologist fun. I really agree that people can be defined by what they really like to eat and drink, like if a couple buys sandwiches and one always gets hots and one never does... it probably isn't going to work out too well. I enjoyed how real everyone seemed even though they only graced a few pages. This was a fantastic read and I think everyone should pick it up. Kristina had the right blend of romance, heartbreak, sugar and spice. Definitely a delightful read.

I'm totally obsessed with this series, much more than I was with TWILIGHT. I wish that I had Vilmos and Dri as friends in my life. This was an excellent balance of adventure, action and romance. I am so sad that there is not another new series, but I definitely thought that this book had a good ending!

Gracling by Kristen Cashore |
Rating: 5 Stars |
This book was one of the most amazing fantasy books I have read to date. All of the characters were fleshed out beautifully, with Katsa and Po being amazingly deep, and the world itself was so real it was uncanny. The love story behind it was equally great, putting TWILIGHT to shame with it's realism and honesty. I would recommend this book to anyone.

At the beginning, I was a little skeptical. It was a little slow for me. The plot was a little hard to understand at first, but when the action picked up, i found myself liking it more. The ending was great and it was worded really well. In a way, the story was really sad --- it made me cry a little bit.

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy |
Rating: 4 Stars |
The writing was beautiful and the setting --- near the beginning of the French Revolution --- flawless, but the absolute lack of romantic development (I thought you loved me! I don't! ... Ohmyword, I just realized you love me! I do? Yes! And I love you!) was what lost the novel its fifth star.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick |
Rating: 3 Stars |
While this book was good on a purely shallow level, I felt that it wasn't as appealing as the cover and even the summary made it seem. Patch was interesting in his own way, but the development of his character was so spotty that I never considered him as an interesting love interest. Nora, for me, was ruined from the very beginning by virtue of having the name Nora. (In my mind, Nora is a name reserved for boring people and fat cats.) Other than that, she was flat and rather boring. The sheer blindness of her best friend, Vee, with whom she shared nothing and seemed not even to be friends with, was also less than pleasing. It seemed to me that the book promoted the very aloneness of her character, that she really had no one - she tells, after all, absolutely no one about her escapades with Patch.

Brainships by Anne McCaffrey, Margaret Ball, Mercedes Lackey |
Rating: 4 Stars |
I really, really liked this book, actually a collection of two books. I especially appreciated that it explored personal development before romantic development; however, I felt (contradictorily) that it neglected the development of the romantic side of the story, relying instead on eleventh-hour epiphanies. I felt that the writing was good, and the plot interesting enough to keep me going. I also found it remarkably realistic - this is a story I could believe in occurring in the very distant future.

Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen |
Rating: 5 Stars |
This book made me anxious, angry, regretful, happy, and sad.I believe that in order for a book to be good, it has to make your heart lose control. The ending wasn't to my liking, but overall, the emotions I felt while reading this book was overwhelming. It's weird how you can not notice that the one you truly love is in front of your nose, but you avoid it. I believe love is as blind as people say it is, and this book has made it more lucid.

Wow...I love this book so much. I've read TWILIGHT and love it also, but I believe that when love is realistic it is more beautiful than one that can only be written and not brought to life. This book touches my heart in so many different levels. It left me hungry for more, love is so unbelievably strong and vulnerable, and it is shown clearly in this book. Just writing a recommendation for this book makes me want to read it again. This book is beautiful, truly beautiful. Please read it, because it really is worth the time.

What I love about this series is the fact that you can get so caught up in all the poof and beauty of the 19-20th century. It almost feels as if you're living in that time period.
The fascinating end to the series had me on my toes. I actually liked this conclusion, even though I did not agree with some of the stuff that occurred. I think the author has doen a magnificent job at capturing the personalities of the characters through the duration of this series.

Although Bradbury's flowery prose and lengthy descriptions are difficult to read at times, I know this will remain a favorite for a long time.
