December 4, 2001

Dear Readers,

Did everyone have a good Thanksgiving? Stuff your face and watch lots of bad TV? Now, I could fill your ears (or would it be eyes?) with some rollicking good stories about my turkey-day with the always entertaining Brennan Clan, but I think instead we should talk official Teenreads business.

First. For those of you who haven't yet noticed, allow me to draw your attention to our spiffy new About Us page. Right above the Privacy Policy link on the left side of the homepage, the About Us area tells you everything you've ever wanted to know about the masterminds behind Teenreads -- it even includes photos!!

Second. We'd love your help in our campaign to spread the word about Teenreads. As of now, consider it OK by us for you to link to Teenreads.com from your personal webpages -- we even created a couple of Teenreads logo graphics (instructions on how to link included) for you to use! It would also be very cool with us if you shared these graphics with your school and local libraries so that they can recommend Teenreads as a good source for book info.

Official business is done. But if you have any questions about any of the above (or just want to make fun of our hair in the photos or something), feel free to drop as a note at: Talkback@teenreads.com.

Best Books of 2001...
It's always hard to choose the Ten Best Books of the Year, but this year it seemed an even more monumental task --- partly because there was just so much great literature to choose from, partly because everything pre-September 11th seems like a blur. But we did it. We plowed through tons of books and came up with our Top 10. Check it out!

Written In the Stars...
Archers are the philosophers and teachers of the Zodiac. What birthday book should you get one of these feisty and formidable creatures? One as full of fun and facts as a Sagittarius, of course!

The Teenreads Pre-College Canon...
We didn't post a new list of pre-college must reads this update. Serena and Sarah are on a little vacation --- but they promise to have two all new lists for next update. In the meantime, why not take another look at the 40 books they've come up with so far!

Reviews...

SHAYLA'S DOUBLE BROWN BABY BLUES by Lori Aurelia Williams
A continuation to William's first book, WHEN KAMBIA ELAINE FLEW IN FROM NEPTUNE, in this second novel Kambia's life is even more complicated and her friend Shayla's situation isn't much better. Can the girls endure the hardships of life in their African American community?

OPERATING CODES by Nick Manns
Part ghost story, part adventure tale, and part political commentary on the moral implications of working to develop weapons of mass destruction. Given recent events, a story challenging its readers to think about war and peace is especially thought-provoking.

DANIEL'S WALK by Michael Spooner
Daniel lives high in the Rocky Mountains, and his father is an experienced trapper. Then one day his father disappears, leaving not a trace. Hit hard by the loss, Daniel takes off into the mountains to find his dad. Is his father still alive? Will Daniel himself survive?

TILL TOMORROW by John Donahue
On the American military base in France where O.B. lives, there are two groups of guys: the aces are cool; the deuces are losers. O.B. wants to be an ace, but the closest friend he has on the base is "Claude the Clod," king of the deuces. Will their friendship survive?

Question of the Week...
Last time we asked:
If you could hang out with any author, who would it be? How would you spend the day?

And while you're checking out how what books freak other teens out, go ahead and post an answer to our new question:
If you could invite any character from any book over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve for dinner?
